It is just an idea but another forum i visit often has a post count limit on the market sections of the forum. i.e. you can't post in the market forums untill you have a post count of 25 or more. If you do post then the moderators delete it as soon as it is seen. This seems to work very well and deters scammers as they can't just come along open a new account and stright away start trying to con people. It also means genuine users have to contribute to the forum a bit before being allowed the privellidge of using the market forums to sell items - fair enough i think!
(note new users can still reply to threads if they are interested in someone elses items they just cant start a new thread of their own!)

i just thought this might be an easy way to deter some scammers and show then that esato is not a place where they are welcome!

i look forward to people's reactions! and remmeber people always check the A-Z of trusted traders (link in my signature!)

Seems good for me too! But we should restrict this no new threads until 25 posts limit to the sales section only! It shouldn't affect genuine users..

Yeah i am a mod on another forum (see signature )

Users are required to have a post count of 25 before they are allowed to post in the sales section. I do not even have to delete threads becuase we have a script set up to check and validate each members post count

we havent had any scam incidences so far

I think that's a good idea, but not being able to start a new thread has to be limited to the market section as you said since many people join here and start by starting a new topic to get help with what they need.

But if it's just for the market section, then I think it's great.

Thanks for bringing it to our nowledge

@ 50 cent: something like that would work superbly here - would mean it didnt even involve any work for the moderators and i really do think it would deter scammers as they are always looking for a quick buck and can't be bothered to mess around making 25 posts - instead they will just go elsewhere!

thanks for the replies people - keep them coming!

Tom

EDIT: and just to be clear, incase i wasnt in my first post, this should definately only be applied to the market section of the forum not any of the other areas!!!

@WelshTom
yes i think it really does deter scammers. This is because they have to make 25 meaningfull posts on the forum without raising any suspicion. And to be honest most scammers dont want to put that much effort into it when they could just go to a different forum. No extra work required by the moderaters

And sales related threads in other sections regardless of whoever posts it should be locked/deleted immediately.

@ axxxr good idea - laffen now has a pm
@whizkid - yes if this was introduced it would mean that any post placed outside the market forums advertising items for sale should be deleted imediately (or moved to the market section if the author has a suffient post count already!) Which is a good thing anyway as it keeps the forum neat and tidy!

I think people are loosing focus here.
ESATO is a website for people to share info, experiences and opinions.

And it's turning into a very "commercial" website. Each time something is made towards the market section, it'll grow, and will make esato a trade forum more than an se community website.

Just my 2 cents (euro).. [addsig]

maybe trusted sellers names could be in green.and none trusted could be in red so u can see straight away.

and you only become a trusted seller when youve sold a certain amont. say 5 or 10 sales

quote, nice idea. However i dont think that "non-trusted members" should be highlighted in red. They should be left as black. That way users can identify GOOD seller quickly rather than having to avoid bad sellers, if u get what i mean.
