Help with dead K700i, after failed attempt at DIY flash |

A few months ago now, when my Mum got a new contract with Vodafone, she was happy to swap her new K700i with my T610. Great, I thought.
Trouble was, I was on BT Mobile, and so of course when I popped my SIM card into my new Vodafone K700i, it didn't work. After coming on this forum and doing a bit of research (I was new to this whole business of unlocking etc), I downloaded Total Multi-server and attempted to unlock the phone. After having no joy, I found out that I could e-mail Vodafone and ask for the unlock code, which they were happy to provide me with, for £20.
I used the code, and was able to use my BT Mobile SIM in the phone.
But foolishly, I wanted to go one step further... I was fed up with the Vodafone branding in the software, so I decided to have a go at de-branding it with Total Multi-server - following the instructions fully. After having no luck with that, I tried this other program (I forget what it was called now, but someone on this forum recommended it). Unfortunately, after several failed attempts, the phone just died and stopped responding. I tried charging it, but still had no joy. So the phone just ended up sitting in my desk drawer for a few months.
Recently I remembered the phone, and thought it was unfair that my Mum was still using her old brick of a Nokia 3410! I've got to do something about it. I had a look on the SE website, and found out that I could send it to an SE service centre, with proof of purchase, and they would sort it out. I have no proof of purchase myself, so I asked my Mum, and lo and behold, she can't find any either. Even her order confirmation email from Vodafone seems to have disappeared into oblivion. So I'm kind of stuck.
Does anyone have any bright ideas on what I can do next?

The proof of purchase is only to show whether the phone is within the warranty period or not. If your prepared to pay the repair bill, just send it in without the proof of purchase.

It depends how much it's going to cost. Do you have an idea?
Thanks for your help, I appreciate it.

I recently had the firmware in my K700i updated (under warranty) at an authorised service centre, from R2A041 to R2AE033.
The service centre said firmware updates outside of warranty cost NZ$28.10.
A currency convertor can be found here.

About £10, not bad at all. Thanks again. |

Your K700i is new and without personal info on it, but remember, future firmware updates will erase all your contacts, ringtones, mp3 files, pictures, video clips, etc. Be sure to backup all your personal info before getting your firmware updated in the future.
To do this I have a bluetooth dongle attached to my laptop and use freeware called MyPhoneExplorer. It rocks!
