@HOBBS: howzit. I had a good play with the w950 and i can tell u that it is nothing in comparison to my m600. The keypad is absolutely horrible. The walkman player is cool but the sound quality using my sennheiser is exactly the same. The hardware button on the side of my phone can be mapped to any function whereas the w950 just has a play/pause button. I would highly recommend the m600 or if u can afford it get the p990 (but be prepared to live with the bugs). Stay away from the w950 if u text a lot. Cheers |

@ Francois,
Eish, sorry to hear how such 'wit gomgatte en mak-moere' spoilt a good deal of your evening.
Hope you managed to eventually get some sleep with all that obvious adrenalin flowing through your veins, swaer.
@ da brixsta,
As regards the Sky v/s Virgin media battle, this is Virgin Media's side of the story (although we know the gist of this info already), which they have now uploaded on their site:

I certainly do tip, particularly when in SA where I may give a higher rounded amount of the usual 10%. I really don't mind if the service I have received is good.
However, I will have no beef with not tipping if the service and their attitude/mannerisms have been crap. Fortunately I have not experienced shoddy, pathetic service on too many occasions, both here and in SA.

About the group tipping thing...
@ Francois,
Ya, it would be scaley if the last person left at the table used the accumulated tip money to pay for their food, BUT there may unfortunately be instances when one is last at the table, ready to pay and others that have already left have stipulated that they have even included the tip, but when you count the money, it may not even be enough to cover the total cost of the food, let alone the tip! Maybe they forgot about a few drinks or side-orders before slapping down the cash...or not..., even if they have 'checked' the bill.
The last person then may (possibly) not have enough on them to cover the outstanding amount and a 10% gratuity! Now this is probably more likely to happen at work-type functions as opposed to relatives/ friends meeting up, but I can think of one or two poephols in extended family and work circles who have short-changed (inadvertantly or not...?!) those few left at the table at the end...
Just something to bear in mind as well.

There are lots of reasons tipping does not happen, never a set one. I have had some people with good attitudes and some people with bad attitudes being non tippers. Its just not fun spending your night serving a Huge table keeping you from serving others and then they dont tip. I am just so glad i am done waitering. Been a good year since. I enjoyed it, but there is so much unfairness going on, if not towards you, towards some of the people who are working with you.
The p990 hobbes? Tell us how you find it when you get it. Would like to know.
The w950i vs. M600i, if you own one of these, i promise you it will be better. There is a 3 week period of adjustment for any phone. My keypad was crap for me till i got used to it. Now i have trouble with nokias:) its all up about personal taste. My friends phone, the n80 was my second choice. I read reviews and someone said the keypad is uncomfortably situated. I tried his phone. For me that is true, cos i have big hands. He has small hands so it works for him.

Ya that would be quite obvious, but as I have not done waitering myself, I don't have too much room to talk on the subject, I guess.
Hope you have a better evening tonight though, boet.
Soak up some of that 'chill-stoep' environment; we'll have to check out that legendary stoep next time we're in SA. I plan to spend a week or so in Gauteng next July, with close friends of ours in Jozi.

Boet, where i grew up you learnt to stand your ground, even in the face of overwhelming numbers. And when the situation demanded immediate action, you never ever hesitate but use enough force to bring matters to a very swift conclusion. Learn to know what works best for you, hone it and use when necessary...
Wrt tipping, i've made it a practice to tip generously. My daughter could very well spend some time waitering someday, so i'm "paying it forward".

Ya, the left-over braai food came in handy for lunch today too.
Took this pic with the N73 late this afternoon, after cutting the grass. A bloody good thing there is something called air traffic control...

Did you guys hear about this...
£840,000 ( approx R11 760 000) car in world's costliest crash:
Motorists near Chertsey in Surrey may have witnessed the world's costliest car crash. One of the vehicles involved was an £840,000, eight-litre Bugatti Veyron, the world's most expensive and fastest street-legal car. The crash happened on a 40mph section of the B375 when the hand-crafted Veyron - which has a top speed in excess of 250mph - went out of control while doing about 100mph. The supercar collided with a Vauxhall (Opel outside UK) Astra before crashing into trees on a roadside bank.
Would love to hear the insurance company's reaction...
