@Ranjith - what you are paying double for is the software development and optimization. if you look at reviews for the oneplus3, you'll see that even with its impressive specs, its performance is mediocre.
Although I can agree Sony needs to price its phones more competitively, I agree with whoever said their strategy is to sell few at high prices to make a profit. It's not the best strategy, but right now they simply don't have a market presence and it's their best option until they do. They have poor relationships with carriers overall and I think this is their biggest problem. If you want to gain market share, the best thing to do is let the carriers push your product. However, unlike Apple or even Samsung, who have the brand power to negotiate terms, Sony just can't or won't.
Especially here in the US, if it's not pushed by a major carrier, people simply don't know about it.
I am looking forward to IFA. I'm looking to upgrade my Z1 this year and I would absolutely LOVE it to be a new sony flagship I can be proud of. Otherwise, I will have to see what the new nexus will be and hope that it comes soon. I can't stand samsung, will never be an iphone user, and no one else has the unique flavor that only Sony can provide.

I personally hope there aren't any leaks and Sony surprise us all. The only thing I'm expecting due to the fact it's Sonys best selling flagship would be a new compact and I'd be very surprised if that didn't happen.

Is Sony even listening to the reviews or reading the editorial articles about them? Because if they are, they would have fixed some major issues like the camera software.
Also, they could have left the omnibalance design with the Z, and have a new design language with the X. They should bring back the old designers of the days (Arc, NXT Series, Ray)
It is really time for SE to be the innovators. They cannot be complacent and ask $700 for a mid-range device over waterproofing and camera.
I really love Sony, and I don't like them closing the mobile division, but they really have a lot of things to think about. |

About pricing, here in europe XA was announced at 300€ (ridiculous price) and have been a lot of time in pre-launch at that price, but now they hit the store and the price dropped to 250€ (not bad)
I really hope IFA will bring us something, i'm about to change phone, i need leaaaaaaaks!!!

We had ZERO leaks about X series! But they are hardly worth mentioning anyway... Nothing innovative and to speak about. |

^Quick question, what was the last truly innovative piece of tech fitted to any phone?
Most innovations if you can call them that is just the same rehashed tech with a twist. There's no innovation on the S7 range that is "new" same could be said for the HTC 10 and the G5 with its expensive friends, they're OK but nothing you couldn't buy before. We have become so demanding as customers that manufacturers are just trying everything they can to stand out from the crowd when in all honesty it just confuses the mass public who just want a good looking phone that has decent battery life and maybe take a good photo and that's about it and that's why I love the X it's kind of a no frills smartphone that gets all the basics right with just the right amount of extras to satisfy the majority of users out there.
Mr Tripe, you can pick up the XA in the UK for £190 which is about €230 which for myself who had used the phone finds that very reasonable.

The OnePlus isnt that bad. The RAM management was simply a business decision and now they have started to roll out updates to fix it. But I do agree that SONY's UI is one of the best..at least to me. My Z2 is still awesome in term of performance, unfortunately after 2.5 years of use, it has taken a lot of beating and hence Im looking for a new phone. Even then SONYs high price tag isnt worth it when Samungs also has good software development and optimization and cost about the same.
Either SONY should give SAMSUNG a run for their money in terms of HW+SW or price their phones maybe just a bit more than the OnePlus and the likes.

Not much but SAMSUNG/Apple seem to have enough in their models to keep their fan base happy unlike SONY.

Look at huawei P9. That is the true innovative. Dual camera really do a good job at noise reduction and high detail picture.
While Xperia still doesn't have a full manual feature and still continue with poor "superior auto"

One thing I'd love to see Sony implement in a future device would be the ability to capture 360 videos without the need for a separate camera. Not sure how the tech works or if would even be possible but it would be pretty decent if they could.

There is little going on in terms of innovation, Galaxy S6 and S7 are very similar in many aspects and they could only re-introduce features like SD card and waterproofing. What they did do is improve on most aspects like battery life while Sony actually regresses if you take Z3 to Z5 to X Performance. The X Performance actually does very well compared to the S7 despite only having 3GB RAM, camera is also very good but I fell like it is another stop-gap device by Sony because of the lack of 4K recording.
I also agree that the Z3 and Compact were the last awesome devices they made. I massively regret getting the Z3+ over the original Z3 because the chipset is utter trash. Makes me skip the Z5 as well. So far the X is the most compelling device because its a mid range that acts like a high end so I may pick one up only when the price drops though. I'm craving a proper Compact so like the Z3 and not Z5 version which was junk.
What the OnePlus3 does that Sony should also do, is put a lower price compared to others so they can be forgiven if the phone doesn't perform. It lowers expectations and people focus on the good rather than demand top specs at top price. Its an easier market for Sony to handle. The Z1/Z3 Compact were cheaper than the standard flagships so people could forgive the 720p display and as such, they received massive praise from everyone. People were more critical of the flagships having dodgy cameras but from the perspective of the Compact, it had a flagship sensor in it. I think the X is supposed to be the equivalent Compact for this year, I hope not because an X Compact is what I really want from Sony with the essence of the Z3 Compact. |

I need a new Tablet Compact. I've been hugely impressed with the one I have. That market is shrinking though, by all accounts, so I'm not holding out.
I think, at IFA, we'll see more IoT stuff + an X Compact maybe only because it's the one phone that Sony has that does actually rule them all. Give it a more premium feel but don't charge the earth.

XP vs S7 vs One plus vs apple
Being the best in Daylight perhaps is not bad at all or being almost 2nd during night shot which is not really trash as what reviewers are emphasizing. Moreover, I am sure that at manual mode, the XP will probably be better or on par with S7 especially considering how Sony have improved their Iso sensitivity quality.
My z2 before has too many noise at Iso 400. Now, iso 400 is really good and much better than iphone as always but better

Well we were just talking about this the other day, and Sharp has released a phone with a 120Hz display:
http://www.gsmarena.com/sharp[....]obably_cant_buy-news-19134.php
I know it's a bit of wishful thinking, but I REALLY wish that Sony would use the PSVR display on their next flagship. 5.7" 1080p RGB OLED. Well, maybe a variation of it, because IIRC the PSVR display has its pixels packed tighter in the middle to reduce the screen door effect. A standard screen with the same specs would be great!
And as always, I'll state my hope for a future flagship Ultra The mere fact that they're continuing to make Ultras makes me happy, but the fact that none of them are flagships is frustrating as hell. |
