I just did that SSID thing and it lost the connection and had to type the name of it in to get back on which would be tedious all the time. Just going to leave it and hope for the best. But i've been getting slow speeds lately so think it's being used by someone else.

But as long as you're connected it should never drop the singal...
you really want to secure your network wifey.. you don't want every tom, dick and harry on it downloading god knows what... attached to your IP address....
It pains me to say this, but try doing it from your PC.. it will most probably work then.... as in setting up a PW..

I don't know how to do it though, everything i try results in my iMac loosing the connection. I've had to reset the router twice. As for the PC, it's at the skip!

locking desktop icons in place...
right here's a question...
my icons are laid out like in this picture
how do I lock them in place per se?
I'm aware I might need to make alias to my external HDD but the proper HDD will always scoot to the top right hand corner and it's tres annoying!
ta!

Right click the desktop, then show view options and untick the snap to grid option. Works for me.

still doesn't do what I want it to..
they are in a order I chose....
Mac stuff down the right hand side and windoze stuff down the left hand side...
I would like to stay like that but as soon as I save anything to the desktop if rearranges it all into one big list...
me no likey!
there was an app I saw that locked your desktop in place but I can't for the life of me remember what it was called..

If you UNcheck the 'Keep arranged by' option in Finder's "View > Show View options" window, it shouldn't automatically re-arrange things everytime you save something.

Strange thing happened... The top status bar (?) changed itself, for some reason and I can't do anything to put it back in the way as it was before!
Any ideas guys?
