I'm really impressed by the way some members here, esp. Wanqa and others take pride on their camera phones.I for one am not bothered by takin pics, maybe it's because my cam is all so crapy and not much of a photographic person.

Guys, the rain is HAMMERING down here! Top speed on the freeway without aquaplaning was 60km/h, saw roofs and garage doors flying down the road from the house which the bank says is mine. Stopped off at a buddy's house in the main road to give him a hand in securing the temporary roof erected over an extension to his property, when there was a massive crunching sound from the opposite side of the road. A wall of the upper storey of a double-storey house had been blown down, landing next to a brand spanking new Honda CRV parked in the driveway. Was raining much too hard to check more carefully but the car appears to be unscathed. Unless it clears i somehow i doubt that the Westlife/Michael Learns To Rock/Michael Bolton concert tomorr nite will be as well-attended as the promoters are expecting it to be.

They all seem to be living in little self-contained bubbles waiting to be pricked.

Here's a bit of interesting news from MTN, don't always re-post info from myADSL but this one is quite revolutionary.

MTN SA launches Messaging service
By MyADSL, 5 March 2007

Millions of MTN's mobile users in South Africa now have greater control of their messaging and mailbox with a web-based management service powered by IP Unity Glenayre, Inc.

The software - i-MAIL - enables users to control their voicemail, faxmail and videomail from one portal, increasing the flexibility and personalisation of messaging services.

MTN mobile subscribers in South Africa now have new ways to manage and receive their voice, video and fax messages via the MTN Web portal.

What i-MAIL offers?

Using i-MAIL, subscribers can set up and manage their own messaging services and options, including blocking callers from leaving voice or video messages, establishing group messaging lists, and setting up message forwarding options.

The Portal's MessageMe facility enables users to forward voice, video and fax messages to an email address or MMS-enabled handset, while the Personal Operator option allows users to transfer their calls to any other phone.

"With more and more methods of communication available - voice calls, SMS, MMS, video mail, fax, email, etc - it is increasingly important that users are able to manage the means by which they receive communications," said Ashraff Paruk, General Manager, Business Strategy and Product and Innovation, MTN South Africa.

"Our service allows customers to access their mailbox from anywhere in the world, similar to how you would use 100 or 111 to listen to messages,” said Paruk.

Using i-MAIL overseas

As a web-based service, i-MAIL removes the need for subscribers to call their mailbox to receive messages: instead, customers can access their mailbox from anywhere in the world, significantly reducing international roaming charges levied for retrieving messages. With the message forwarding facility, users can arrange for their messages to be pushed to them, wherever they are.

"i-MAIL offers MTN's customers convenience, control, practicality and ease of use. It also reduces operator costs by lessening call centre volumes and increases the visibility of other services available on the MTN website," said Andy Minnaar, Sales Director of IP Unity Glenayre in Africa.

Why some of you are bothered with 'myAdsl'? If I don't like something I don't go there (unless I have to because of my work). on friday i had a motor vehicle accident with the police car. some nut head jumped a stop sign and after I smashed into him, his vehicle (apparently without proper brakes) crashed into a new 4x4. no major injuries, althou there is around 30000rand damage on the 3vehicles.huh mind you not all is bad. now is almost certain - i will be able to afford a new wing (paraglider) before the end of the year ;) @krypta Here in Jeffreys it was just as bad. we (the police) had to save/help the local mayor's wife after she drove into a manhole (not closed and covered by watter).hopefuly the mayor will give more attention to the state of our town's roads.

Anyway, I'm really tired now, but I've got more lectures to attend and there's an important talk at 5pm, so I've gotta keep myself awake till then. Couldn't get to sleep last night, not sure why. Only had barely 3 hours of sleep before I had to wake up and get ready for school.

I'm supposed to be having a lecture now, but there was this bunch of guys happily chatting away right behind me and annoying the hell outta me. I wouldn't be so frustrated if not for my lack of sleep. So anyway, I walked out of the lecture theatre and am surfing in the library now.

AND now there's a bunch of people chatting behind me again! It's a library for crying out loud! Geez... You'd think university students would be more civilised then this.

@Kryptik, I've checked out the link and you're right, it seems like they're offering a pretty good deal. Over here in Singapore, there's a new package not unlike what VirginMedia has to offer, except that there's not cable-tv. I'm not really considering it as my current service provider is fine. I suppose you are considering getting it? Seems like a good deal to be honest.

If Virgin offered a deal like that here i'd leap at it for sure, bro

Mario, there's been quite a loss of life here after the rains. Things seem better today, not much rain predicted although gale-force winds are expected. I may go to that concert tonite, depending on whether one of my learners who's been hospitalized has been discharged by then. They've no transport, and it would be criminal of me to expect them to get home in such weather conditions.

My mistake bro, I'd assumed the package was offered in SA. It'll definitely be worth getting if it were. Sorry to hear about the young one, what happened? Here's wishing him/her a speedy recovery. You take good care too bro, and enjoy your concert tonight if you do go.

@deluded: We might get such a service next year when new players enter the pay tv market.

So it's a bright new day, and a stack of work on my lap...overjoyed, as you can imagine.

@ deluded, we have had a lot of bad storms and flood in many parts of the country...That bit in the post a little back about roofs floating by, that was not abstract imagery, it was reality! A few deaths and surely many injuries, so I assume Kryptik's pupil got injured in the whole saga. (ne?) Enjoy your day, and hope things go better with your lectures. I know I am very grumpy when I lack sleep. Then again, I always lack sleep....hehe!

I think it is a good move from mtn with the whole web thing. Looking forward to more such services launched from all the different service providers. Vodacom has a crapload of catchup ahead: I mean, MTN offers the cheapest broadband rated internet in the country(Broadband rated-by international standards, it is pathetic, but there are standards here, low as it might be) and now this.

Anyway, gotta work...later!

Quite correct, this youngster (Ntombenstsha, a latchkey kid) thought she would rather sit out the storm at her neighbour's house, since she was home alone. It was a good decision to go next door; unfortunately by the time she left the house there was a veritable stream flowing past her gate. She slipped and fell awkwardly, fracturing a forearm in the process.

It looks relatively calm here today, although the wind has picked up substantially, with occasional flurries of rain. We'll wait and see how things turn out later

I really wasn't aware about that at all, I hope all of you are fine. It's sad when Nature unleashes its fury. I'm really sorry to hear about the casualties, and I've said a silent prayer for all of you. Please take good care of yourselves, my brothers and sisters.

I'm totally knackered at the moment; the pupils were all asleep when I checked a few minutes ago and I finally have a bit of time to myself. Can't wait to be back in my own bed tomorrow night. Managed to take a few decent pics with the N73,between all the activities. Might post them tomorrow night if I have time...or energy...

Thanx Deluded, much appreciated. Things seem to be returning to normal now, although there was a cloudburst last nite during the concert. Of course, i happened to be standing directly under said cloud... got a thorough drenching, along with a few thousand people out in the open. Was well worth it, even though the rain caused some spectacular fireworks when the sound bank blew up during Mr.Bolton's show! An hour later the show continued, albeit a shortened version. Taking pix was nigh impossible because of the rainy conditions, yet it was spectacular to behold the on-stage smoothness of MLTR, Michael Bolton and Westlife.

I'm particularly looking forward to ground duty at school today, since i'm on auto-pilot, lol
