Well I'm currently using my Xperia Z Ultra but I hope to get its successor whenever it comes out in 2014. My biggest hopes for it are that it'll have a better loudspeaker, the same camera as the 2014 flagship, and a shutter button. The battery life is already pretty decent, but more is always better 
I suppose we won't be hearing about the Ultras successor until Summer or so. Still wonder if they're going to stick with the omni-balance design or go with a new design philosophy. |

Yeah, but the Xenon only drains the battery when it is used, and when used it would drain about the same amount regardless if the phone is using Symbian or Android or anything else, right? So it still doesn't make any sense. If anything, if today's phone in general use more power (bigger screens etc), that would just mean you would get even more Xenon flashes out of it due to bigger battery. |

Nothing to do with power consumption.. its all about syncing it properly with the camera software and the mechanical shutter, which from what I've read its easier to do on a real-time kernel like the one used by Symbian.
Obviously there are ways around it since there are phones using a monolith kernel which have xenon flashes, but the first non-Symbian to implement it properly is the 1020.
I am expecting a proper Sony cameraphone some time in 2014 .. which should at least match the 1020, or even the 808..
But something tells me that at that point Microsoft will be launching something better than the 808.. so.. Sony really needs a disruptive device to get ahead in the camera department, or at least get on the same schedule because right now they are 2-3 years behind Nokia in terms of imaging.
They started falling back once they switched to Android from Symbian.. or around the time the N8 shipped, and then the 808/1020 spread that gap even further.
I know that a lot of here are Sony fan boys, but it is what it is.. I know that Sony have very capable engineers, so its only a matter of time before they deliver.
I've been waiting for a sony cameraphone since the Satio.. nothing yet. |

The camera on the Z1 is quite nice and it was tough to go with the Z Ultra and its inferior camera. As good as it is though, I figured the 2014 flagship and its kin will liklely have a far superior camera judging by the way Sony is going under Kaz. I'm hopeful when I'm ready to upgrade by 2H next year that we'll be seeing quite a beast of a phone all around, whether it's the flagship or its Ultra brother. |

Android Authorities has a good read 3 months usage of the Z1... While you might say how this relate to rumours thread, I would say that the bad things that the writer mentioned has been discussed here before... and I think Sony should fix them, it's not just us -Esato'ers- noted these even though some might not agree of one or two of these negatives
The Good
- The Xperia Z1′s performance
- Fantastic battery life
- The premium build quality
- A light touch on the TimeScape UI with features that you’ll actually use
- Waterproof (up to 1.5m for 30 min)
- Great camera in good light conditions
The Bad
- Poor low light camera performance
- Huge size when compared to other 5-inch smartphones
- Screen protectors which aren’t scratch proof
- Viewing angles aren’t up to snuff
It's a good read overall, but the negative points are real... Camera is very good compared to others, but not in low-light... the size is large basically the bezels are just over... I don't want very small bezels but not big also... Samsung managed to pack S4's 5" panel in almost the same size or smaller than S3... the bezels are small, sometimes it's not good when trying to reach far as the hand will touch the edge making it sense two touch's... but it's good
screen protectors has been mentioned here as well, the phone is water proof yes but not scratch proof...
Viewing angles has been discussed like hell here, and if we see this kind of attentions to this issue, then we can't say it's okay.. we have a problem here and Sony should fix it...

out of curiosity, is there really screen protector that is really scratch proof? I tried quite a few brand, non seems to be. GG3 says to be scratch resistance, doesn't seems to be the case to me neither. |

I was thinking more along the lines of symbian draining less power than android when in use, which would permit more battery for the camera and xenon flash if need be, but I could be wrong.
Samsung has the S4 zoom and the galaxy camera's both running android so perhaps there is a way around the kernal issue on android.
But I agree and hope that a proper camera phone from sony should be made for 2014, a perfect z1 successor at IFA next year. |

power issue is usage dependent.
if you just want a phone with xenon, then it may not be an issue. if you want to replace a separate camera (excluding professional camera, DSLR...etc), then there are issue unless you will never take more than one photo requiring flash per minute. otherwise, you may be choking power on everything other than the flash or have large humps. |

the headline is misleading. the second "flagship" is a wi-fi only device so it's not a flagship because it's not a phone.
EDIT: it's actually the same news as few days ago, but now they are saying that the second device is wi-fi only...
a walkman player with audio chip and xperia android version?
and what about the name "sirius" - the brightest star? are sony hinting it will have whitemagic for its display panel?

NextPowerUp is reporting the last leak again, BUT added a 1440p 5.2" screen for Sirius, other spec. are KitKat 4.4 OOB, Snapdragon 800 or 805, 3GB RAM, improved camera with same res. and finally a larger 3500mAh battery
The second device ( canopus ) info is very limited to the fact it will be WiFi only, they assume it could be Ultra successor but they question how it will be the successor and the current has cellular, I think they didn't count that rumour of a WiFi only version of Ultra...
