Oh great

It never rains but it pours...

Can you get hold of an electrical multimeter? that way you can test the charger by sticking one probe inside the jack and holding the other one onto the outside of the jack. The voltage (make sure that the meter is set to DC) should read very nearly the same as stated on the charger (obviously!), + or - no more than 1 Volt really.

It's most likely the charger, as you say but sometimes if the battery's had it the bloody things won't power up even with the charger connected. Failing that it's the charging circuit which can mean a lengthy and expensive repair

Good luck mate!

They're not too bothered about cracked programs. It's cracked Windows versions that they won't touch without getting you to buy a genuine one

Certainly is, i thought you didn't love me anymore

Right, do the num lock / caps lock/ scroll lock lights stay on when the keyboard stops working? if they don't, it could be a dry solder joint or broken track on the motherboard. If that's the case, there's not a great deal you can do unless you're handy with a soldering iron, get a USB keyboard instead.

Otherwise, it could be anything from a problem with the southbridge or BIOS to a windows driver conflict. You could try resetting BIOS to defaults and uninstalling and reinstalling the Windows standard PS keyboard driver (or custom keyboard driver if it's a fancy keyboard).

Also, believe it or not, run a virus scan if you haven't already. There certainly used to be some viruses out there that made your keyboard go funny although M$ supposedly patched the OS against years ago.

Cyco ! Me and my computers mate

Now my fekking sound isn't working on my desktop, System restore isn't sorting it out either.

Aparantly Windows Volume control hasn't been installed :S

Is there a way to get it on without a fresh install?

I'd start by uninstalling the sound driver and installing the latest version from the PC / Motherboard manufacturers website.

It may have become corrupted.

If that doesn't work, you can try a repair reinstall. To do this, stick your Windows XP disk as if you were going to do a fresh install (don't worry, you're not!)

When it starts up, proceed as you would normally. DO NOT select the repair console when prompted, but carry on as if you were doing a fresh install.

You should be prompted with the option to perform a repair reinstall. You won't lose any of your personal data or applications, but you may need to reinstall some of your drivers afterwards.

It's still a good idea to back up all of your important stuff beforehand though, just incase something goes wrong and the PC won't boot afterwards. It's very rare that this happens though

By the way, this option isn't always available if your PC came with a restore disk, it depends on how heavily modified the restore disk is.
