Damn, K810i looks pretty vicious especially that keypad...there's something very Swedish about it. A hint of Volvo/SAAB with a dash of IKEA thrown in. People on Esato have been saying that Sony had the upperhand at when it came to design but with this phone it's confirmed that still has some say in the final designs of GSM phones...Compare the K810 to the Japanese phones from and you'll notice that they seem to be light years apart...some people might like the flash and bang of the Japanese while others will appreciate the understated elegance of the Swedes.
@da krypsta: Also experienced some problems with Vodacom data service it comes and goes. On My end I also seem to lose network coverage...the bars on my phone would disappear for about one minute at any given time in the day...it's cool at night but not so cool when one is expecting a call in the middle of the day and have people bitching at me telling me that my phone had been switched off.
In the same breath I should add that I've got a love-hate relationship with Vodacom...mostly good service but when things go bad they really go bad.

LOL, brixster. That's the first time I've heard of cellphone styling having elements of the famed Swedish furniture/household superstore cues.
I get your drift, though.
Yeah, me likes the new K810i's look; wonder if they got any design cues from that very similar expensive, Vertu-type phone that was on this site late last year, which also had round buttons on the keypad. Will try find the link later; I'm off on a course now.

Thanks for the help.So do you guys think that investing in a k800i is worth it? it is a symiab based OS isnt it?
That the only reason why i want one. Vodacom is crap hey. Iw as thinking about moving to virhin maybe but im not sure how good their network coverage is.Any ideas? This pic was just me checking how the upload feature works. And it just proves that im an indian.I love cars and cellphones!!!!! LOL Oh one more query. With the k800i themes, when they are applied,do the icons change as welll? coz on this site the images only show background changes. Also is there is a difference between the K800 and K800i.Coz alota sites i checked out show only K800 and some show K800i.Any help? Thanks so much for helping me make da decision.

@ kronik101: The K800/K800i are one and the same. It does not use a Symbian platform. The M600, W950 and P990 use the UIQ Symbian platform, whereas Nokia smartphones like the N73, N70 etc use their Series 60 Symbian platform. Not sure about the theme icons, perhaps 786KBR could answer that one. The Nokia S60 smartphone themes allow thematic icons. As regards if the K800i is worth it or not, that'll depend on what you want from a phone, and if there's good enough network specials/ incentives to tempt you at the moment. However, there's a lot of exciting new phones on the cellphone horizon, particularly from Nokia and SE...

Oh yeah, welcome kronik101;-)
First place to check out phones is the manufacturers sites. There they have a clear indication of which is smart phones and which is not. After that Wikipedia for any info.
Okay, so you want to install applications. The K800i has many java apps you can use on it. I know since they also work on my phone as they should. It all comes down to what you want to do with the apps. Tell us what your needs are and then we can tell you if java is able to do it. The other option is the w950, but the lack of camera is the big factor, but that is easily sorted out if you have a camera. But phone cameras are neat, no need to lug another camera around.
So yeah, the K810i is pretty...would love it..,but with the k800's current issues, i wonder...will still see if it turns out to be a nice handset...besides, my w900i is great, and will last well into my (hopeful) iphone days;-)

Kronik, howzit bro. Welcome to the thread
Yep, as mentioned the K800i isn't Symbian, more's the pity. Check out the gsmarena.com review at http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_ericsson_k800-review-93.php
Gotta tell you though, Symbian rocks *self-satisfied grin*

EISH,I'm a bit dissappointed.Went to MTN yesterday and saw they've got the w950,been waiting for it for so long and the price is way too high for my budget.R309 a month xcluding calls. With calls added it will be somewhere near R500 a month.EISH!!!But still I have until October to upgrade and maybe, just maybe, the price might drop a little. If that doesn't happen by them,l'll go for the m600i with a 1G M2 card.I'll keep my fingers crossed for the price to drop. Welcome to da thread Kronik!!!

@ kronik,
What about the N73? S60 OS phones can be sluggish, but the range of Symbian applications for them grows significantly each day.
If you were to get one, make sure your local Nokia service centre installs the latest firmware on the phone; the original ones have a few irritating bugs.

Hey bradboy, did you just sabotage the power supply at Kingsmead?! I know we're battling to chase Pakistan's total at the moment, but ain't that a bit extreme?!

@kronik: Sorry I never got to say "hi" when you first posted. Have to agree with the wanqsta (I just love the consensus on this thread)...your best bet is probably going to be the N73 if Symbian OS is a high priority.
Having not used the P990 I can't say much about it's performance but my friend recently returned his and he mostly complained about it's pathetic speeds and other bugs...brotherman does know much about fw upgrades and the first opportunity he got he exchanged the P990 for the candybar Samsung Ultra Edition.
@da wanqsta: I switched off the cricket after the fourth wicket fell...couldn't stand watching it because I might do something to fatal especially now that I'm alone.
