Im so pissed off now! mtn has been charging me when i browse at night even though i paid for the 3g nite plan and havent even reached 20mb yet. Once my cred runs out so does my access. And to add insult to injury, they are adding my day time data usage to my nite balance! I started as an mtn hater and it seems im back to being one. U cant get thru to customer care phone, the customer care webpage doesnt have anywhere to lay complaints and they havent responded to my email i sent 2 weeks ago! It seems its off to ncc i go! |

Sorry O, abu! I forgot to warn you to only use a dedicated sim with zero credit for your 'nite time' browsing. Had similar experience earlier.
And before going to NCC, visit a Friendship to make a formal complaint. |

@brym: why the dedicated line? Anyhow, if they didnt make mention of that on thier website then they have to recompensate. Coincidentally, i went to a friendship centre this morning b4 i saw ur msg. They took my complaint but told me in confidence that it will take time cos they dont respond to problems sent from thier office in due time. They advised that if im going to abj i could solve it faster there! Can u imagine? |

@Abu: Kpele. Thats MTN for u. I had a similar experience, thats why I switched to Zain.
@Brym: Zain connection is mostly GPRS, and EDGE in some areas, but the speed is not bad, cos u get consistent data transfer, and their billing seems to be less erratic than MTN's

@brym & amby: if it has happened to both of you, what did u do to rectify it? Nothing? |

Oh, nothing my brother. I had earlier complained about the N500 daily browsing cheating and got a very poor response from them. Besides, I had a pending case at NCC with GLo then, so I skipped complaining to NCC. |

@brym: you ddnt want to look like a whiner at ncc? anyhow, starcomms is coming online on wednesday so i'll do for total reimbursement from mtn. Although they are starting with cdma 1x only, that beats gprs hands down. |

@dawny: ...errr.... Its was me telling brym that starcomms was coming up IN MAIDUGURI. We are the 3rd town in naija for starcomms to start voice but the last to get data. After glo, mtn and zain have reaped all the potential subscribers.

MTN, Zain and Glo charge 15 kobo per kilobyte for pay as you browse. Zain's other data plans are covered by O'Yom.

I'll be expecting a retraction of that post very soon. Cdma in Nigeria sucks. GPRS is actually faster probably due to fewer users. I'm currently on Zoom mobile evdo package, but opening yahoo sometimes takes 3 minutes. |

@amby: no retraction!! If you want to compare which can be slowest, a snail or a rabbit, both can be absolutely still, so no victor. But if u ask which is faster then the answer is obvious. If Zoom offers horrible service that is way under expectation that doesnt mean gprs is better. It took me 50mins to open a page on my computer using mtn gprs in the dead of night when u expect it to be faster. Any how, when gprs and cdma are both at optimum, cdma wins. When both are at thier worst its a tie! Happy? |

After a long while, I bought MTN's daily internet access early yesterday but could not browse because the speed was terribly slow. 18 hours later, the speed is blazing inspite of a heavy rainfall. Seems that sticking to Glo's pay as you browse will suit me better for the rest of my two week vacation: Glo's speed and service on pay as you browse is reliable most of the time on my mobile.
Ah! I miss the broadband service at the office. |
