I get all of that. But with mobile phones with the power they have even today maybe can power some basic stuff, like libreoffice. All you'd need is a screen and a few other peripherals. With a tablet with the OS, all you'd need is a mouse and keyboard.
Windows phone might support that in 5 years, and who knows, chrome and android may unify in that length of time too, but with Ubuntu, maybe that could be mainstream in 1-2 years if someone put the effort in.
I believe the Z Google edition rumours were started by you know who on you know what forums, not this one, and a certain site has a habit of following him so all other sites got it from there. Only someone crazy would go for it over the normal Z because unlike other phones, it has too many useful touches to lose, but as has been mentioned a few pages ago, it's an easy way to break into the US market.
And a lot of people would love to see vita os, but that's another story, lol.

The Honami could be either announced or teased there.

Hmmmm so I guess it might be Togari launch since there will be simultaneous events in Germany and Shanghai (at least, maybe more locations as well) |

And Honami is expected to be announced in China in July?

I repeat the question asked earlier. Do Honami will have oleophobic layer? In the case of almost perfect in every way smartphone misunderstanding would have happened if the layer did not hold. |

@ramu
How is Sony planning to announce Honami? Would it be like how Samsung and Apple do it, a big solo event? I'd want them to announce the phone right after Nokia Lumia EOS, I'd want the Honami to murder the hype of the Nokia rival right away. |

Honami will have competition from Nokia

Ubuntu and hardware support: agreed, and that is why if supported by sony, it would at least work perfectly on the sony xperias and or vaio. Again, i would not brick a honami to play with ubuntu and loose the camera function. As a non dev, i need makers to ship ubuntu.
App ecosystem: it is clear that any new os will have issues to compete with ios and android. But honestly i think it will not stay like this forever (sorry to state the obvious) and makers should start build new things. Not everyone uses more than 15 core apps on a smartphone, and open source apps on pcs are increasingly replacing all commercial apps i was using.
Ubuntu lacks as an os: i do not disagree, i always had issues running ubuntu as a whole. My main pc is a mac, and my second older pc runs mint xfce. Mint runs very well on old hardware, it shows what pc makers could do if they wanted.
I think this is a very interesting time, windows is phasing out, android showed that linus coul be credible and makers have choices, and many are eyeing apple success. You have amazon and kindle android fork, you have samsung with tizen, even though i did not get what their content is. And if you think about sony, they have tons of content, music, movies, and ebooks and games. It is not a full ecosystem but it is a good start, i wish they create software optimised for their hardware and open to apps and open source applications. |

Ubuntu lacks in many ways as an OS. For one there aren't many applications and the ones that do exist can't be compared to Windows counter parts. There is no app to replace Photoshop, Maya 3D etc.
Sorry for off topic, but actually there is an alternative to photoshop in ubuntu, that is GIMP. As for Maya 3D there is Blender 3D for Ubuntu which after seeing works done in Blender 3D I could say it has the same or even better potential than Maya 3D. Some 3D modelers even say Blender 3D is even better than 3ds Max or Maya. For browsers there is also Firefox for linux. For media Player there is VLC for ubuntu, so yeah it's almost there as an OS for the typical user but I agree it definitely needs more polishing and support done to it specifically to its compatibility, but the potential is there.
As for Sony making a phone running ubuntu mobile in the future, I will definitely be interested in it, as long as it will run butter smooth and as open as android allowing bluetooth transfers/USB mass storage I think it'll be a great alternative to android, It'll be like the replacement for the now obsolete symbian.

Blender 3d does in no way compare to Maya, nor does Gimp to Photoshop. I've used both. Also there are many more options on Windows for better video playback than horrid VLC.
If Honami is launching in July when is Sony finalizing everything? Last we heard I think the software was behind schedule. |

Agree with gimp not being up to par on photoshop, but Blender? I've seen works done on it and definitely has the potential as a 3D modeling program both for typical and professional users, it all depends on how much you know how to use it's tools. As for VLC being horrid true for a power user who likes a lot of filter tweaking, but for typical user it should get the job done on Ubuntu, as for windows me personally I don't use VLC for my Hi10p mkv.
EDIT:
I know I got off topic sorry about that, so I'll just ask a question regarding Honami, @Randomuser does Honami have a lens cover just like those on the old cybershot phones? sorry if this has been asked before.
