It actually is a tariff reducing plan on mtn extra cool + some other packages. The more the percentage on ur phone screen, the less the charges. You have to register though. Look it up on there webby ok. I'm down right now so I cant search for the link |

@Ify: Checked MTN site could not find any info. I had to google it and got this from www. nigeriabestforum.com
"Hi Friends,
There is something going on now with MTN which I want to bring to you.
Have you noticed that MTN now shows MTN ZONE on your phone recently? If yes, then you are in for cheap calls. They don’t want you to know it. If not, they would have advertised it ever since.
Anyway, here is what you will do to enjoy cheap calls.
Steps to take:
1. When you see the MTN Zone on your phone at about 60, 70, 80, 90%, then dial: *135*1# and Send/Ok
2. After that immediately dial: *135*7# and Send/Ok. Please, if don’t type this second one, you will not be able to receive calls.
3. When you want to make calls, it will show you the percentage discount of the call. Assuming you want to call another MTN line: 0703.2733047. The network will show something like 50% or 90%. What it means is that you will be given a discount of 50% or 90% on the call you want to make. If you like the discount, just place your call. With this measure and feature, you can make 5minutes call with N20 only.
4. If you want to migrate back to the package you were using before, do dial: *135*9# and Send/Ok
So, do enjoy cheap calls these days.

This MTNZONE has raised more questions than it has answered! Im always weary of THE HIDDEN CHARGE!!! The top on my list being
1- how much is charged for migration
2- how much is charged when u are not in the ZONE? (ie no MTN ZONE msg)
3- does the discount fluctuate while u make the call or does the percentage u catch at the onset remain for the whole call?
4- what are the charges for sms? Do i still get my extra cool N5 sms?
5- cost of returning back to old tariff?
Have another sim that i might just experiment with to see. But if anyone has the answers, save me the hassle! Did some one say gobsmacked? Havent heard that in ages! Ifed o!

I wanted to make an comment when brym spoke of the 5mp cam but refrained. But i think i have to stir things up. Pls dont take it personal, cos i've come to respect both of ur observations and views over a wide range of topics. But.... UNA DON CRAZE!
Seriously, i dont see the point of the average joe looking for a camera sporting more than 2mp! Anyone that needs more than that needs a camera with optical zoom. As lond as the 2mp cam has a good lens and its exposure settings etc are good (like the great old k750) u can take fine pixs than would look great on any large screen. Its only if u want to put up picture on ur 60 inch computer monitor (i heard amby has 3 of them!) that u will appreciate the 5mp. For proper photos, i bring out my small sony cam with 7mp and 3x optical zoom. That is enough for me. Even if im producing a billboard! |

I really don't get it, how can the naira crash against the dollar and remain stable against the pound? I heard it was 179 naira to a dollar.... How outrageous.

Its this ur stupid CBN gov! After all that noise about trying to strengthen the naira against the dollar by decimalization abracadabra, he turns around to purposely devalue the naira by hoarding dollars so that we will have more (valueless) naira in our next budget. Im not an economist and ddnt even read economics in sec sch, but i think i understand it more than Soludo, or at least more than he would lead us to believe he knows. My UK US trip was really subdued do to the devaluation. But had i known it was still going to fall, i would have still bought some electronics on sale and sold them here at a premium! 20 20 hindsight vision. |

@brym: you got it spot on for the time zone thing. I was in Enugu a while ago and i was getting 90% on my phone regularly. You can imagine 90% off your regular tariff. There is no hidden charges except the txt msgs which go up to #10 from #5-#7. Really down wiv typhi now so cant flow. Cheers |

Sorry about the typhoid fever, hope you get better soon. Wonder why it is so common these days. When i first had it about 30 years ago, I was admitted at Univ of Benin Teaching Hospital for nearly ten days. The ailment was so rare then that the medical students doing their clinicals often gathered around my bed to see ' that handsome boy with typhoid'. Boy, I felt like a guinea pig but enjoyed the attention.
Anyway, just mind what goes into your system.
@ALL: Hold on to your phone tightly and take care of it too because the prices of phones are shooting up sharply. No thanks to the current exchange rate of the naira.

Im still skeptical. What happens to calls to people on family and friends? According to the brym's post, u need 60% to 90% to register, which i only have seen once by accident around 3am! Its mostly 50 or lower. Good luck with the typhoid. |

Em, abu! I no be average joe na?
High Mega-pixel camera phones never tickled me that much until the birth of my child. And a camera phone is always available and handy to capture those very rare moments in his life. A high mega-pixel camera phone just makes the images better.

@Abu: You will always get a better picture from a camera with higher MPs bcos you can squeeze in more pixels into any given picture.
Try rhis, take a 5MP camera phone, set it to take photos at 2MP size, then compare the resultant photo with one taken by a 2MP camera phone. You'll see what I mean. |

@amby and brym: i too love photos, but as i said b4, the difference btwn a 2mp and 5mp on ur average monitor is hardly noticeably, talk less on a 6x4 or 8x10 print, as long as the lens and exposure of the phone is good. Anyhow, these days its hard to find anything less than a 3.2mp. But as i said b4, if u really love photos and want quality pics of the kids having fun or the best friends wedding, instead of shelling out some serious wad for a new cam phone with 5mp, get a simple dig cam for less than 17k (soludo's strangle hold on the naira not withstanding!) and take much better pix! No way can the cam phone beat the pix. And dont say u cant carry the cam around for impromptu moments! Im sure both of u still log around 6 phones btwn u! Make una just admit am! Una de do big boy! |
