s4 active ip67....glove touch...aqua mode..used to increase visual quality and clarity for enhanced underwater images and video.
o god i feel like my xperia z is crappier than ever.
Why would you feel like that? The new Samsung S4 Active is another copy/paste from Sony. Even the name 'Active' was used by SE before. It's same size, same characteristics, but it's uglier (you cannot update this with a new firmware) and it is not out yet, whereas your Z is beautiful, thinner and performs as good as the S4 Active already for months now.
The only nice feature I see is the option to take photos by pressing the volume keys. But this is a software thing and I hope Sony will add something similar in their underwater phones which have no dedicated shutter button. |

totally agreed~~ the first Samsung water & dust resistant phone? very obvious that they copied from Z..ZR...etc..
and regarding design, Sammy cant even compare to any of 2013's xperia series....

FYI, a really good camera app that allows you to use the volume buttons to act as a camera shutter is Vignette..ive been using it for a while now and its very good...
i wouldn't touch a samsung phone with a ten foot pole...samsung=lame...

So Sony will work with Olympus to develop Sony cameras with 5-AXIS stabilization

now let's talk about Honami's successor

Come on guys, this bashing of Samsungs S4 Active is over the top. It's not like Sony invented this category. First there were some specialized niche brands for rugged phones. Some mainstream history:
Motorola Defy 2010-09
SE Xperia Active 2011-06
Samsung Xcover: 2011-08

Not exactly, there was a phone called the Samsung S5690 Galaxy Xcover, IP67 certified - dust tight and water proof (up to 1m for 30 mins), august 2011, not a high end smartphone, but it predates the Sony.
From the press release, the OLED is replaced by a TFT LCD, I'm guessing it is still capacitive? because I wouldn't believe Samsung would opt for a resisitiive screen to be able to use with gloves. I wonder how they got a glove to work on it, or if it works underwater.
Also with the increased thickness, I would have hoped samsung could have added a larger battery but it seems nope. Sony still wins here with the thickness. |

it was way before that.. when Ericsson days at 90s, they have introduced their first water proof phone

However, there were some other water proof phones follow that from Nokia, Sam and more

Xperia Z was the first waterproof flagship smartphone in the world that's why we think s4 is copying it. Other waterproof smartphones are mid/low end device. |

You guys are thinking too deep. Sony basically created the high-end waterproof concept in the West, obviously others are going to respond.
What's copying like only Samsung could manage is the name. Active? Sony should call their flagship next year the S5, let's see how they like that.

Without bashing, we can agree the marketing message is an overstatement and make fun of it.
Please, it is hard enough to wait for fresh honami news.
Here's another one: Does ip67 protects you from Exynos 5 Octa?
Or maybe samsung found the way to cool the galaxy s4: drop it into "the roughest rivers".
Ha ha

To Ramu. Do you know which screen (Sharp's IGZO or the new Sony's TFT with Pixel Eyes) will be used in Honami? I ask because the androidauthority inform that it will, however, TFT. I am also interested if this phone will have oleophobic layer. Thanks for the reply.

Both will be used.
And once again, - TFT is not a type of panel
And also, AndroidAuthority doesn't know anything about Honami

When you lose, you change your motion. Go back to Sammy's wonder land.
A smartphone, dumbphone, feature phone is still a freaking phone. So, which Samsung model had glove mode. I'm waiting. |
