(single-tracked ???)
yes, but you shouldn't be suprised because my first association was that you don't like C901 and pictures from it and you negated 'quality'. now we know that you negated 'dSLR'. however I'm curious what would be your reaction for 'dSLR' not in C901 but in C902 thread

almost almost... comparision with D80 was about "color accuracy" and now it's about "depth & sharpness"

Can I point out that Plank is clearly contradicting himself?
He compared his Nikon D80 DSLR super lens camera machine to his C902 with dual led flash and he said results from c902 were so much better - like the colors being perfect on the c902.
Nikon D80 vs C902
I've been lurking for a little while, but I really must comment on the situation
Here's how it is:
- c902's camera is pretty good, and there are definately worse 5mps out there. However, as reviewers note, the c902's picture has a purple fringe and tends to be too sharp.
- c901's camera is better than the c902. When set up right, c901's colour balance is perfect, and gives crisp shots. However, as plank has noted, sometimes when you are indoors and using "auto" as a scene setting, the xenon flash will give the image a yellow tint. This can be fixed.
- Both phones have excellent build quality, and they have very similar technology apart from the camera. |

This can be fixed
I can't verify now but this can be fixed with incandescent WB

@raider
Do you think with very fast shutter speeds and minimum flash output we can remove all the over-exposure on macro pics taken with flash? choosing sports mode helps, but there is still some over-exposure

Does a purple fringing caused by a software or hardware?

only ISO is a problem. it's too high (ISO 200) for nominal 0.0EV and when distance between the camera and object is small (macro). for now only -EV can help to reduce ISO in shots with flash
Junz
purple fringing always come from hardware - lens, where waves of light are refracted. software can only minimize effect (post-processing)

first of all.........
¤ all cellphones have more or less fringing...........
second.................
¤ C902 does not suffers of unusual fringing.......(not more then ordinary cam phones)
third.........
¤ C901 does not have stable colour rendition........(if you cant see that, you need glasses).
------------------------------------------
100% crop C902........(if it had been some fringing, you had guarantee seen it here)

Well planky,
That looks kind of purple.
Also, that particular crop may not have finging, but I have google and about 50 reviews and pictures that say it's there.
CNET
GSMarena
TestFreaks
Sample Image, it's too big and not very on topic, so I hotlinked it.

my post wasn't a crypto-critic of your beloved C902, welcome in discussion anyway...
second - purple in C902 is massive, MASSIVE, MASSIVE!
C901 has much less purple than K800 which is 10x more purple free than C902
third - C901 has good color reproduction
you can't see this because you admire C902 oversaturated colors in full sun or undersaturated from auto WB in artificial light. auto WB colors from C901 are quite well balanced - no yellowish sh*t over whole picture, finally! do you know that WB settings in the camera are not for fun only? if you need more vivid colors then enable non-auto WB, it's not that hard!
BTW. you really don't see purple in this 100% crop? do you?
enjoy...

well, its really odd that the only c901 pics who looks great (now i mean a serie of pictures, not just once in a while) are Pitzons C901 pics.............
its just a few of this 64-pages photo thread who's even close Pitzons pictures........sorry, but that's the truth.........if it had produced stunning pictures all time, i would bought it a year ago.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
edit.............
by the way.........if you LOVE metering & watching your pictures in full size.....buy a REAL camera for God sake...
most cellphones looks crap everything over 1024 x 768 size anyway.

well, maybe Pitzon is a cheater in your opinion? in my opinion his pictures are extremally good because he knows how to use sunlight to get rich colors. pictures can be great even in very cloudy conditions, it's just in your head how to interpret visual effect. in your case no sunlight = no WOW factor = flat
