Hi all,
But it has already been announced on MY-Symbian and copied here by Ares that there is no week 48 update and this has been confirmed by two people high up within SE.

I also would like to point out this phone took over 10 months from announcement to release, with many claiming the delays were for them to fix any problems so it would be released virtually bug free. We now know what rubbish that was.

It has already had a couple of updates released which admittedly did help, but as this is SE's flagship model you would of thought it there was anything major that could be done it would of been a priority and would have already happened. I don't doubt there will be further improvements but i do believe they will only be minor and until the next generation of units come on line and a lot more has been done to resolve the issues UIQ3 has created nothing is going to drastically change. Those that have the experience and patience can make their units usable to varying degrees but I'm afraid most will not be able to either due to their lack of willingness to have to work so hard to achieve it or if inexperienced with the P Series and Symbian just unable to. This is merely MO but i was right about the delays meaning nothing and was being done and am pretty sure i am now as well i await to be proved wrong at which time i will eat my words. But for now i really am sick of they will fix it soon rubbish because so far they have done nothing to lead me to believe them. SE RIP you killed yourself and have no one to blame but yourself.

As I understand SuperNo wrote:
"Sorry to forward that kind of news, but according to a famous and usually well informed French "forum guru", the "Week 48 rumour" is unfounded and there won't be any public firmware release in november".
Then jonah who said the oposite i.e. that there is week 48 wrote:"
Hi, My source is the Product Manager for SE Nordics, Per Alksten, as well as Jakob Rydén, Product Manager Walkman section."
And finaly Ares wrote:"This was posted at my-symbian. Per Alksten is a MAJOR manager at SE...i think the week 48 info is not just a rumor any more".

But never mind, lets say I didnt undertand properly and there is realy no week 48. That is not what I want to talk about.

You have your own preferences, I can say you are a sport man, you like lightening speed. Thats why you find UIQ3 very slow and use M600 only as a music player. That is quite fine with me as I will never, ever argue anybodys taste. I dont have M600 (which I consider a great phone by the way) and cant speak about it, but when I read your posts about P990 I found it much more subjective that objective. Let me joke a bit, sometimes I wonder do I realy have P990 or something else.

Why do I say all this. It is because I appreciate your effort to make SE understand that there is much more room for improvement. But if it is too much subjective they will not take it seriously.
For example I would like to open 15 applications at the same time like I used with P910 and not to wory about RAM. But it is also true that after tasting P990 I now wouldnt be happy with those 15 application if I have to use P910.
So I do welcome possible new firmware but I dont know it should be desparate for it. And I certainly dont see that one has to "strugle hard" in order to get at least something from the phone. It is better to say that one should care about usage and RAM using swiss manager and in return enjoy the phone like anything. Let me now be subjective. The phone is worth every cent I gave for it.

Hum, seems like my update failed, going to have to delete those blob_fs files. It has totally stopped half way and is not going at all, will try that and see. Best of timing though, going to have to leave it at the repair shop to fix my onboard keyboard, as the o,p,l,enter, and backspace keys have stopped working.

EDIT: Update seems to have gone ok, but the keys still don't work.

OK a lot of people seem to be under the impression i hate SE which is totally untrue. I am just very disappointed at what they have done of late and yes i accept many of you are happy P990 users and by careful management of Ram using SwissManager are able to do most if not all that you wish.

But my point is simple it is a smart phone it should be able to do all that is asked of it without the need to have to monitor and mange Ram that's how it always was why should we now have to be experts to make it work smoothly. Most end users expect to open the box turn it on and it works however unrealistic that is in the real world that is what they expect from the promises in the promo literature for the P990. Leaving aside the fact they promised one powerfull battery delivered a less powerful one and then stated it was a typo it was never meant to ship with the BST44 yeah right that was one hell of a typo that lasted all the way through to delivery of the units and all of this on a phone with WiFi, Bluetooth and a bright colour screen.

But i would just like to point out that Mr on another forum has reported from his contacts in SE that the P990 has the highest return rate of any SE phone ever. So i would think by now SE are more than aware of the situation. Along with the number of Networks that are still to approve this phone for release on their Networks.

As to the week 48 update only time will tell which report is correct or not. But even if it does happen i really don't believe it will be a fix all update as IMO that's just not going to be possible, but again i wait to proved wrong. But so far my record on being right is pretty good. 10 months of delays were due to testing and resolving bugs and that on release there would be very little wrong was the claim of many i doubted it and was i ever right.

@Dogmann:

You speak the truth dude. What you said is what I know to be true but cannot admit because .. 1) I an a die hard SE fan and 2) I paid just under INR40K (~USD900) to buy the P990 the day it hit the stores.

Still I have faith that the next round of firmware updates will make things a lot better.

I agree with you. SE have royally fukt up witht he P990i. Die hard SE fans will persist with it but the average user will not and will look elsewhere. They have damaged their brand in this sector of the market with the P990i. I for one will today be phoning vodafone to complain about my handset as although I can live with it I want it on my account that I'm not happy with it but there is no other viable alternative for me as yet. I do hope if there is a further FW update it solves some issues but I cant see it ever solving the memory issue. They cut corners there. the bean counters got the final say over the technitians IMHO. I think the P990i will be a white elephant for SE and I put money on they're already on with the new P series but will do this as quietly as possible and ensure they get it right this time.

Just to add. The battery is not up to the job if you have 3G activated. I would not expect it to last up to one days heavy usage and if you were a business man who relyed on your phone it has to do 1 full day of heavy use.

Your last post is objective and hits the point, appreciate it.
If SE wanted to inspire larger none-smarth-phone-experience audience to go for P990 they sadly failed. For experienced users the phone can be nothing but amazing, a real little miracle:)

again, please stop this kind of misleading and baseless post, "spoke to a friend.. someone told me.. etc etc.."

its been discussed many times that the latest fw for p990i is (and will always be) R3B01.

and i am an ex-p990i user.

How do you know there will never be another firmware update? that is as misleading as the post you're slamming.

C'mon people, just calm down haha. There will be a firmware update since this phone has way too many bugs, which have already been fixed for other models running the same OS. The question is just when it will be released. I could use the update quite a bit...

Did you sell your phone or did you just stop using it? (Your avatar is still a P990.)

No worries. I just thought maybe you knew more than we did. I agree speculation is pointless. all it does is raise hopes and leads ultimately to disapointment. all the best
