@Cytech:
I just compared the files. Amazing but true: The R380e firmware doesn't waste any more memory than the R380s. The main flash part has - of course - to be the same size since the physical flash block can't change: Both files are 908KB.
The PDA flash part is more interesting: Though the R380e has got one application more, the flash files are a bit smaller. R380s files are between 4.750KB and 4.751KB (depending on language) and R380e files (I compared the same languages) between 4.461KB and 4.538KB.
And to make things clear: Yes, you can upgrade a R380s to R380e without problems. What's even more funny: You can also flash a R380s or R380e to R380 WORLD. The physical layout of the PCB is a tri-band. It has filters for GSM900, GSM1800 and GSM1900 so it was obviously planned to be a tri-band model like the T39. I can only guess why they released the phones only as dual-band. Maybe it was a marketing decision because they thought to sell more different phones this way. Or they just couldn't develop a stable tri-band firmware until the planned release date.
However, on the other hand you can not simply flash a R380 WORLD to R380s or R380e: /// saved a little money and left the place on the PCB free, where the GSM1800 filter is soldered to. You would first have to solder the filter in place.

could you write step by step, what you did, when you made R380s-->R380e? Regards, Robis |

@r0sewhite
that's a bit weird, I know my R380s showed less memory available after I had upgraded it with R380e firmware...

@bleurdeur:
No, there is no other model that uses the same components as T66 or T600. But don't worry since the common failure is only a broken ball matrix underneath the big CPU chip. In 95% of all cases where a T66 doesn't power on or doesn't find network you only have to reflow the CPU. The problem is due to the big size of the CPU which doesn't twist as the slim PCB does.
What you need is a hotair soldering station (temp. not more than 340°C) and a lot of flux underneath the CPU. Heat it as long as it starts to swim and it will probably work fine after it.

@Robis:
Where are you from? If you want to send the phone to Germany I may be able to repair it. Bleurdeur unfortunately lives on the oppositely side of this planet so it wouldn't make much sense for him to ship an inexpensive phone all around the world for repair.
If you live closer and you think it may be worth to pay the postage to Germany and back, feel free to do so. I never denied any request for help.

I have the same phone and also works well. Probably I have to try the same as you did
PS. As I remember the battery is original, so for now it lasts maybe only one day when no much talking.
