Ricky D, what sort of logic did you come up with to think the bad (and OLD) JPEG algorithms of recent Xperia would spread to the DSLR?
We know that Sony is trying to improve their JPEG performance with a new algorithm engine (and it appears this is a company-wide effort), which would mean improved JPEG performance for the upcoming Xperias. If Sony is really bringing this new improved JPEG engine to DSLRs/NEX as well as Honami, this would mean improved performance for ALL of Sony's imaging products. I don't know how you would reach the conclusion that the old crappy engine would be brought back to the NEX/Alpha line.
Edit: Off topic but will Sony announce new VAIO at Computex?

Sony never shows up at Computex if memory serves me right though I can understand the curiosity because of the Duo 13.

@sighduck
The logic is that if it's the same teams who've done the previous jpeg algorithms for smartphones then we can see from history that they aren't world beaters in this field. If the teams that wrote the algorithms are from the camera dept then that's a different case, but the name of the project sugsests it was led by the smartphone guys.
I'm not saying they wouldn't be an improvement for smartphones but may be a step down for DSLRs.
I have a dig bick You read that wrong |

who told u that honami code name for jpeg compression came frm the honami phone & the team developing it ???
Ramu has many times mentioned that new jpeg compression for honami is being developed by the CyberShot dept. guys not the mobile department!!!
That's why there z no threat to sony dedicated cameras |

Chill out man. I'm just saying it how I see it and trying to interpret the various sources. No offense to randomuser, he is doing a great job of aggregating rumours and keeping on top of it all, but he isn't always 100% accurate in his info. I can only think of one or two who have been here for many years who have a very high accuracy on leaks.
Anyway, the rumour in the link posted above by Shotokan81 distinctly names "honami smartphone project" as the source of the new algorithms. I'm not trying to say for certain it's the smartphone guys or the camera guys who have written it, but the name of the project suggests smartphone and there doesn't seem to be evidence (other than talk) to show otherwise.

"As you already know,
SONY is working on a new JPEG
algorithm for this particular phone,
which is suppose to be from the
IMAGING DEPARTMENT OF SONY."
This is what the above link says...that's why there is no reason to be worried. Mobile team is in no way involved in all this.
btw i'm chilled out bro & sorry if i sounded angry

There seems to some confusion. Sony is working on all new JPEG engine for all its cameras from Xperia to Alpha. But they all won't have the same JPEG engine. Honami jpeg engine is for Exmor RS sensors, Cybershots will have a separate JPEG engine and a different one for NEX & Alpha.

The Honami comes with everything except the kitchen sink
P.S will there be any need to use apps such as Juice Defender if the Honami battery life is supposed to allegedly last for Days rather than hours?
