Hi, I have a question about the use of the sd card.
I moved from my Arc to a TX. So going from 2.3 to 4.0 means the memory environment has changed. I had Internal memory and the sdcard. I took that and put it in the TX, where you have internal memory, sdcard (still internal) and ext_card which is the actual sd card.
I could restore backup data from it. so far so good.

But the media apps (like walkman or cubed) cannot find the mp3's on the ext_card.

I do see that the phone somehow copied the folder structure from the MUSIC folder from /ext_card to /sdcard, but without any content.
Same happened to the DCIM folder which seems to have been copied over to /sdcard with content.
Videos show up from both /sdcard and /ext_card.

Any idea what I can do or how this is supposed to work?
Seems a bit silly to provide an expansion slot that can take up to 32gb and then copy all content over to internal memory.

Thanks

Mathieu

@Big_D

ofiach tested a 64GB SDXC in his Xperia T and Xperia Tablet S, but with no success. From what I understand he had an issue formatting the card and eventually deduced it was a card issue. XDA users are saying that it works with T and TX, if you get one be prepared to change the formatted file system for it to work and of course let us know if it does work.

I believe you will have to do a media scan of the ext_card. The only way I know how to force the scan is to use widgetsoid to create a widget that forces a scan (mounting/unmounting the externalcard via the menus doesn't always work), I know it's a bit convoluted but it works. The scan can take a while if you have a big card and lots of nested media folders.

You may also benefit from closing the media app then clearing the data and cache from the media app in Settings>Apps and then run the app again, to force it to rescan for media.

Some apps also let you decide which folders to look for media, Sony walkman and album don't (but it will find media on the ext_card), I don't know about cubed. The camera app will let u decide to save to ext_card or sdcard.

The android system creates the music and media folders in the mnt/sdcard folder automatically (in the same way a Windows installation would have certain My Documents My Music folders pre-created even if you have a second drive with media). As you said, it doesn't copy the content, just the pre-defined file structure, you can completely ignore those folders once your media apps have picked up the ext_card and found your media files.

Personally, I leave all my media on the ext_card because it's 32GB but I put media for things like ringtones, notifications and wallpapers in the sdcard folder so they load faster and independent of if the card is connected or not. When using the USB cable in mass storage mode or the first few seconds at booting the phone the external card isn't loaded so it elps these things load if they are in the internal user memory (sdcard folder).

Thanks for the info. I've already been trying to clear the cache and app data of some apps.
I found that If I put music on ext_card with Mediago, it is at least recognised by the walkman app.
But I still don't want my ringtone mp3's showing up in my music library. I guess I'll move them to /sdcard for reasons you explained.

How does that work? Do you need to assign some script/command to a widgetsoid button? In all the widget options I don't really see an option that sounds like it does this.

Thanks

@Webalistic

In the newest widgetsoid version there is a toggle named "Media Scanner" about halfway down the long list. I think it's in the old widgetsoid too but can't remember where in the lists it is.

You can put the mp3s for ringtones mnt/sdcard/mdia/audo/notifications to show in the notifications lists ()I think you can use a audio/ringtones folder for ringtones) or just create an empty file named ".nomedia" and put it in any folder that you don't want to be scanned for media.

Can someone tell me if the white T has a rubberised back with grip, like the black, or a plasticky feel that might slip thru your fingers (like my white Live)?

Sony has posted this in some of their forums...

Info from Sony -
Notice for SDXC/microSDXC memory card and exFAT format used with Sony Reader.

Please be informed that Sony Reader does not support SDXC/microSDXC memory cards (*1), and exFAT format.

When exFAT formatted memory card (*2) is inserted in the memory card slot of an applicable model, your data in the memory card will be damaged. Please be sure not to use exFAT formatted memory cards.

(*1) SDXC/microSDXC memory cards are preset to exFAT format at the point of purchase.

(*2) Besides SDXC/microSDXC memory card, Sony Reader does not support other memory cards and other recording media that are formatted with exFAT.

----------------------

but there posts that claim to have the card working. As Ricky D said, changing the formatting system might make it work...

To force scan media files, you can use the "Power Control Plus" widget, that includes a button to force scan media files

If you want to exclude your ringtones, put all of them in one folder, then make an empty file int he same folder and name it .nomedia, you can use Windows Notepad to create it or even some file explorers in Android ( I used ES File Explorer )... this file will inform the system to not look for media in this folder ( and all subfolders )... the only problem is that when ever you want to select a ring tone you will need to select the ringtone using file browser and not the ringtone select feature...

As an additional note for those who might want to know, if you want to keep an image of the music albums you have but you don't want these images to show in the Gallery/Album, then name the jpg file as folder.jpg or albumart.jpg, the Gallery/Album app ignore any picture with these two names...

Got my TX yesterday - thoughts so far have been so so to be honest. A bit disappointed with the camera quality as most pics I have taken so far look grainy even when not zoomed in to 100%. Still getting used to the size - it's not all that easy to use with one hand (easier with the left than the right which seems it was meant to be). Reaching for the notifications tray at the top means I sometimes have readjust the positioning in my hand. The squared-off corners don't make it as nice to hold as other phones like the HTC Desire S I've got.

The HTC Sense overlay is much nicer in my opinion and there are a better selection of stock themes/widgets/wallpapers. I'd like some better tool shortcut icons as well - Does anyone know where I can get them?

The positives - The screen is great and does look beautiful. Watching video clips and also the transition from web video to you tube is seamless. Web pages load super fast as well - better than I've experience before anyway.
One feature I really like is the Throw feature (not sure how long this has been around). I have my Xbox 360 connected to Wi-Fi as well and whilst watching a video or looking at a photo, I can just hit the Throw button and a few seconds later its on my TV!

Despite the size, the phone is very light. The Xperia logo lighting up is a nice touch too.

I'll let you know how I get on with battery life. Yesterday I got about 8.5 hours out of it on the first charge. Probably about 4 hours of actual usage. I had Wi-Fi on for the whole time and about 50% brightness.

FMW300 - The back is plastic with a matte feel to it which does feel smooth and slippery.

While ago I wrote about problems of my Xperia T screen. Well, there is problems with Xperia TX too:

Sony is selling their phones with different screens batches depending the distributors. This is unacceptable.
