hmm increase tarrifs... well lets not blame them

Really let's not blame anybody, doing business could be quite costly in Nigeria(but at the same time be very profitable if u know ur way around), Nepa for 1 is the greatest contributor to increased cost of production,making a way around them will reduce cost of production. Talking about Nepa how difficult is to generate steady power, produce bills and collect revenue, simple abi? Not for Nepa. I paid approximately N2,000 Nepa bill/month and buy fuel worth N8k monthly to generate power that's not as good has Nepa's power,it was quite expensive until i had a rethink and tried a power inverter which works very well n has presently drastically reduced my monthly expenditure on power generation to roughly N2k on Nepa and N3k on generator.
What i think they should do before they increasing tariff is to exhaust all avenue of alternative rethinking n tell us what alternatives they've done b4 they can increase tariffs.

@area, what's the capacity of ur inverter and how long does it last at full charge/load? How many batteries and what's the battery capacity? I'll also like to know if it's locally made, imported and the price.

The inverter battery lasts as long as or as short as the load u place on it.
They say a picture speaks a thousands words, see the specs and ratings for urself.

Dont blame my absence on me, blame MTN!

This nigcomsat thing is nothing new. Its a shame that india using thier own boosters and thier own equipment are sending probes to the moon, while we can only pay another country to make and send a satellite to space. Other countries either make thier satelites and get someone else to launch, or get someone to build and they launch themselves or they do all themselves. Its only naija that does neither!

@area: i wan buy inverter too o! Pls give a hands on review!

@Mamba I have been using an inverter for 2 months now. Best investment of 2008. I did a search in nairaland.com, picked one seller and got mine. I use 9 batteries, all 12v and 40aH

9 units of 40AH batteries would mean 108Volts/360AH.

Can you tell me how much you purchased the inverter, how long it takes to charge from empty to fully charged and how long it lasts at full load from fully charged to completely discharged?

I need all these info in order to make a good decision on what to buy.

@Area, I'll give u a call by morning.

@coola: That's a nice one.

You are using 9 batteries for your inverter? Wow, that must carry ALL the load in your house.

I started using an inverter in 2002, though a small one(0.5KVA) with a 200 AH trailer battery. It powers my lights(energy saving bulbs), electronics(21" TV and medium sized home theatre) and 1 fan. Can power these for 24 hours before battery fully discharges. Normally use between 6pm and 11:45pm, so can go 4 days. Battery lifespan is 18 months because of over charging.
Had to abandon inverter about a year ago when NEPA went AWOL, so there was rarely power to even charge the battery.

I heard there are some that use solar panels to charge the inverter all day long, which eliminates the need for NEPA.
@brym, how much does that kind of ur inverter cost now?

Not necessarily. Most inverters operate on either 12 or 24 volts. So if Coola is using 9units of 12v batteries, then the batteries are connected in parallel so the output voltage will be 12volts/360AH

@mamba: The guy who assembled mine no longer makes 0.5kva models but models from 1kva to 5kva. The price starts from 30k for the 1kva. I bought mine for about 12k in 2002.
