Imagine a tunnel with a big speaker in the middle, which is directed towards the eastern end of the tunnel.

If one stands in front of the western end of the tunnel, one would hear the music louder than if the tunnel was shut in the western end.

You understand?

Try to turn around your phone the next time you talk to someone. It's no problem to hear them if you put your ear towards the speaker on the back.

I'm sorry but I still don't get how you associate that example with your earlier statement. The construction of the stereo speakers of the phone and their layout have little to do with what you're talking about.
And besides, my mum has a W890 and I haven't overheard her conversations. It's OK, really.

MMC-60 / 70 Do all W, phones not come with this anymore?

Anyway I realized something cool with my W890 today, if you use the MM-60 cable, it disables the volume, so basically the the mmc-60 becomes the true line-out, with a flat 0 decibels output level, which works well with amplifiers and Auxiliary input enable car radios. Also effects like Eq are not applied in the Line-out output.

But I still feel that w890 sounds lower in my car than the w800.

I know it's not activated, but because of the placement of both speakers is located basically on the same place, I think it's easier for the call to be heard on the w890i than on others.

In a generic stereo setup the speakers are for Left and Right are never localed in the same place. In w890 they are definitely in two separate enclosures, even though they are just next to each other. Otherwise the whole stereo concept is lost.

Unless if you have already opened you phone and you confirmed they in the w890 they are not separated.

I agree. Therefore I only bought the Screen Coverage on that site for $12 and free shipping.

Though my GF has full coverage on an iPod nano, and I must admit it's kinda neat.

NightBlade:

I won't bother trying to discuss it anymore, hehe.. However, if volume is at its highest, one doesn't have to put the phone on your ear at all. It's easily heard from 30 cm away.

I just think it should've had the speaker in a way that you needed to have your ear on it, without it being too quiet. (at least sometimes I do, hehe).

W810i was like that.

I guess the solution is to lower the volume as much as your ears allow.

TeenInvader:

Yeah, I know, but read my tunnel example. If you dont get it, just forget about it.

is it me or have other users noticed that the signal quality is really poor with this phone??
I have noticed that areas where i had a good signal with my W950i it is either very poor or non-existent with a w890i.
I use with hcb-120, Think that is right, via bluetooth and the sound is awful, and then i found turn up on phone and is much clearer, weird or what?

I am on Orange if it helps.

Overall very pleased with the phone and more so now i have debranded on davinciteam.com
only used 10credits to do this and dead simple.

The reception is poor compared to my K850.Probably to do with the metal build blocking out the reception

Well thats not good as this phone is one of my near future list of buys. Is reception really that bad or could you have a faulty one. Has anyone else had this problem i would like to know cos i might get it. If the signal is being blocked out by metal then thats SonyEricsson being a bit dumb with design. Every phone that has metal on it should have plastic where the internal antenna is as Nokia do that. Just sounds stupid to me.

You should turn off Smart Search. There is no other way to delete those already-dialled numbers.

Reception is fine on mine.

Some users have reported bad reception on the phone, read some user reviews here that mention bad reception:

http://www.mobile-phones-uk.org.uk/sony-ericsson-w890i.htm

Mines been fine though - I highly recommend this phone - best SE out there at the moment IMO.

reception is not bad. But it's true that it's not as good as a k850 or W910.
The phone is still totally usable !

You actually can delete them but it might be a bit of a hassle. Just save the numbers to a contact/new contact, then delete them. It won't be in the smart search list anymore.

Signal is ok for me. I can't see much difference with K850 i owned before. Maybe K850 has more optimistic signal indicator but driving and talking everyday i never have drop calls with W890.
