@ micks2005 - But what if i dont want to wait until September ? ive had my K750i well over a year now and im about due a new phone. Why should i have to wait until September for a phone to be announced, and then a further month or three before its even released ?

Ive already said many times in this thread why i think SE havent increased video resolution. The first guess would be they're using old hardware that they've used since the K700i. I first suspected this when i got my K750i a year ago, it wasnt noticably faster for such a new phone. Id bet money that SE simply rereleased the K700i as the K750i but simply gave it a better camera, new interface and a little more memory to cope with the 2mp camera. I reckon the same might be said for the K800i, same old hardware trying to cope with new features, and something has to give.

The other guess i came up with was that SE simply think the majority of consumers are uneducated, and would not notice the difference between QVGA and QCIF video recording resolutions on the phones screen. They wont update it because they probably think they can get away with it, and they will except for where it concerns the educated buyer.

When you say right now, no other phone offers what the K800i does, are you joking ? what exactly does the K800i offer than no other phone does not ? i cannot think of one aspect about the phone that hasnt been done before. Even the N93 beats the K800i's camera in many cases from specimen pictures ive seen from both.

Think of this: QCIF is the normal standard for video phoning.

In 1994 4MB RAM was the standard for running Windows 3.1. Does that mean we should cope with it? If majority of the competition is offering higher res video, SE has at the very least ot step up to the plate and match them (if not beat them). ALL Major manufacturers have moved to CIF video for their higher end phones (and let's not full ourselves - the K800/790 IS a higher end phone, that's why there's the K510 and K310 lines which are the LOWER end phones.)

STOP COMPARING TO THE BRICK OF A PHONE N93! It's just not fair considering the size of that thing. The K800i DO offer things that's not been seen before, Best Pic, 3.2 MP camera, UMTS in a small(er) form factor than seen before.

There's a silly amount of complaining here, the K800i will be a great phone, remember it will be sold quite cheap and still pack a lot of the latest feats/technologies available today, and that in a small and stylish shell. If you think the N93 or any other phone's worth lugging around for better video or whatever, then buy it.

All that etaab is saying is that video recording on this phone could and should've been upgraded. There is no reason to try and defend SE on this one. Even I can't see why the K310 for example, should have same recording capabilities as the K800. I'm NOT saying that the K800 isn't a good blend of good technology in a small device, but surely, QCIF is outdated. No one is saying that the K800 should have the same specs as the N93 but CIF or even QVGA recording would be nice.

I don't think anyone can seriously justify the fact that K800 should have QCIF recording.

@Blade Runner

Even a quick look at the specs of the D600 will tell you its no match for the K800i.

The camera isn't as nearly as well equipped for a start and the K800i is 3G so its just faster.

I dont see why we compare a S90 mobile to the K800...
Have you guys heard the term "Theres no replacement for displacement!"

That N93 is massive and 180grams!!! But obviously it has better features!! Data features are far more superior to the K800.

@ everyone: i compare the N93 to the K800i on camera quality alone, im discounting any other smartphone / size issues.

Sure, both phones have advantages over the other, the K800i has Bestpic and the xenon flash, the N93 optical zoom and VGA video. Personally though, im not too bothered about Bestpic (i dont want to spend 10 minutes everytime i take a picture going over the results with a fine tooth-comb trying to find perfection) or the Xenon flash (i never take pictures in the dark anyway, in fact i tend to capture more videos - a LED comes in handy for that purpose, a xenon would be useless).

But the point is as shaliron said, there is no reason to justify why SE did not increase video recording resolution. It just SCREAMS to me SE are either too lazy to develop newer, faster technology that can handle higher video capture resolutions, or they're simply being ignorant to the consumer.

As much as i love the K800i and what it can do, i wont be buying one unless it drops massively in price or a better Walkman alternative appears in a few months time like the W800i did last year, with up to date video recording.

I've been following this thread for a while as I suspect the K800i will be my next phone but I haven't posted anything because I didn't think there's much to say. But the moaners are standing proud.

I have to say that I completely disagree with etaab that SE are "they're simply being ignorant to the consumer". SE know that the average man on the street doesn't even know the difference between CIF and QCIF (go and ask a random 10 people on the street and I bet only 1 out of 10 - if that - knows what the hell you're on about) and it's only enthusiasts who will cry out for the better quality video recording.

So why put in a technology that is more expensive to develop and that the consumer doesn't even know about when you can sell just as many phones without it? It doesn't make good financial, marketing or general business sense.

As the saying goes: "you can't please all of the people all of the time". I'm sure SE are happy to keep the majority happy and will eventually cater for the minority with whatever new produces/features they bring out in the future.

But its a bit nerve recking that they gave QVGA to the W900 and not the K800.
