I've found that TV tuner cards are the biggest pain in the arse of all. Unless you've got the disk that came with it, they're a bloody nightmare!
Maybe pick up a cheap hauppage card online? I don't think they're that expensive these days?

Hi cycovision...nice to see your back mate
Just a quick question
In a few weeks I may be upgrading to XP PRO (free upgrade) as I'm already on Home. I want to install some hardware upgrades (RAM, Processor etc.) too. I just wanted to know from you, which would you think would be better to do first? (I will be doing a clean install of XP Pro.)
Thanks!

Cyco I Got a question. My pc has been infected with a virus call NEWFOLDER.EXE, which disables adm privilages like unable to open taskmanager, run program, folder options etc. I've remove da virus but still the above mention program won't run. I tried using gpedit.msc to enable it but it juz cn't help. How can i get back my adm privileges without installing fresh windows(xp) or restoration. |

It depends on whether the utilities you mention have been deleted altogether or if they've just been disabled in the registry.
If it's a registry problem, and the only way to tell is to try,you might find the answers here:
Kelly's XP Korner
There's tons of system level troubleshooting tips and repairs. The 'Tweaks' section is especially useful because, despite the name, it contains a lot of fixes!
I realise that this is a admin priveledges problem but if you can't reactivate things using gpedit, I'm thinking it must be a registry thing?

cycovision, does your expertise extend to printers?
I have a Canon Pixma iP3000 printer which I bought new in March 2005. It has performed faultlessly til this week when it stopped printing blue (Cyan) colours. I removed the ink cartridge which the software said was full and replaced it anyway as it was a non-genuine ink cartridge.
But now with 4 new or near-new genuine cartidges, it still wont print blue colours. Any ideas?

ahhh canon printers...
I assume you've done a deep clean and maintenance on the printer? also try the carrier, take all the inks out and then the carrier and see if that is blocked...
other than that over to cyco!

@kwiksta
Sorry, missed your question there!
It's generally better to replace hardware before doing a clean install of any operating system since it reduces the risk of the OS becoming 'confused'. It really shouldn't make any difference, but if you're doing a fresh install, you might as well swap the old bits out first anyway
@carkitter
I think fatreg has already suggested just about everything you can try. You could also check that any ribbon cables are securely connected but other than it, it might be a problem with the printer's controller hardware I'm afraid

I can't remember exactly because I don't use Canon printers but If you look in your Start - All Programs list there should be an entry for your Canon printer. Within this, there should be a 'settings' or 'toolbox' app. Fire this up, and somewhere there should be a facility to clean the print heads. Try this first.
If it still doesn't work, you can try removing the cartridges and cleaning everything that you can get your hands on thoroughly using a lint-free cloth or / and a can of compressed air. Also, check that the copper contacts on the cartridge carriers are clean and not corroded, you can remove any corrosion by rubbing very gently with fine emery paper.

Success!
Printed a Nozzle check page and got no result from the Cyan cartridge as expected. Followed instructions for a head clean, reprinted the Nozzle check and ta-dah! Cyan ink working perfectly.
Excellent! - thank you fatreg and Cyco.

It is, and everything else works!!! and booting via F12 I can actually use backup dvd's burned using eRecovery!!??? only other weird thing is that I tried to upgrade nti-backup to latest version, and during install it says "you do not have a version of nti backup on your computer"! I do....

Yeah, burn it and use Norton Ghost Instead!
Seriously, I can't help you with this I'm afraid because I've never used eRecovery before. Maybe somebody else can shed some light?
