So The Godfather Of Soul has passed away. RIP, JB.
And to think I had an opportunity to see him perform at London's Alexandra Palace just over a month ago;...
a Hungarian teacher assistant at our school had a spare ticket, but as I'm on the school's governing body and there was a governing body meeting the same night, I had to be at the meeting for the all-important School Self-Evaluation paperwork. If only I had called a sicky...

Merry Christmas Everyone!
That is really Really sad! His CD has been on top of my bookrack staring me in the face the last few months...He really was a master! Respect to the master...
Anyway, quiet day for me. Our family traditionally always open gifts Christmas Eve as the family scatters to other relatives the next day, that is, extended family. As gramps is old, ended up doing the prezzies thing way before 9pm last night. Got a tuner which I needed quite a while since my other one disappeared ages ago, only to show up an hour after I got the new one...my music is sounding better again;-)
After all the formalities I ended up at Cool Runnings with Paul, Handsome and Kelley for a few beers (Funny enough I always end up at a bar Christmas Eve with a good friend or two...sorta tradition by now!) Few people there, got more later, but we left soon in search of a Pool Bar, but they were closed, so back to CR with two other friends(Me and Paul, Babsie and Janie) It was fun.
So now i am all stuffed, quickly on the net, and might watch a movie or make music...
By the way, did anyone get the Christmas New years issue of Time? I am gonna register soon, but got 4 free copies.(again) Words this year that showed up: my favourite: Celebritard...A celebrity that is not known for being too clever...We are not naming any names. Paris Hilton. (And that is almost a direct quote!)
I quite enjoyed the issue as it went into the Youtube, myspace thing, the thing that has made this year so much different Very interesting read.
Anyway, over and out...Enjoy the rest of the day! Be safe guys!

Did you guys see this?
"A total of 5 412 motorists were trapped speeding by speed cameras on Christmas Day, said Johannesburg Metro Police..."
wtf?? You guys in Gauteng must be in an awful hurry!

And, according to that chief superintendent in the article, the average speed being 145km/h.
That's 90.6mph here. You'd lose 3 of your 12 points off your driving licence in the UK, plus a fine, if you were caught doing that.

I usually don't speed but today I went at around 142km/h only because the road ahead was clear and I was driving on the national highway.
In most cases it's not speed but unroadworthy vehicles travelling at speed...if authorities can get those vehicles off the road deaths would probably be halved.

I think most people would travel at an average of 140km/h on long, open national roads.
To sit and stick to only 120kmh on the long desolate northern stretches of roads like the N7 is taxing, to say the least.
Most of the excessive speeds that I have travelled at have been on superbikes rather than cars, but again, this has almost always been on long open stretches of quiet motorways. I try enjoy my 'fix' on these power-to-weight ratio missiles, hopefully without feeling that I'm jeopardising the safety of others in these environs, or feel that I'm trying to impress anyone else.
I'm there to enjoy the thrills; I shouldn't be insecure to feel that I need to prove anything to anybody at the expense of common sense or compromise the safety of others.
Therefore I'm not at all into the 'windgat' traffic light-to-traffic light jockey scene or 'urban drag' meets.

@Bongz: Sorry to hear about your massive fine but you should've known the KZN traffic cops have a merry time this time of year with all the visitors filling up their coffers.

Agreed, when one hits those long open stretches the tedium of crawling along would be mind-numbing, to say the least, unless the scenery makes a gentle trundle worthwhile, and one has time to spare.
Right, now that Xmas has come and gone, who's doing what (or who?;-)) for New Year's?

Ja nee, if I think of places like the stretch between Bloem and Kroonstad, for example, where there seems to be sweet FA to check out along the Vrystaat vlaktes, then it is very difficult to monotonously stick to 120. Just gotta watch out for any traffic cops lurking in the shade of the odd/ occasional bridge or flyover along the way.
I can think of other boring stretches too, like between Hofmeyr and Steynsburg for example.
Give me the Langkloof or Garden Route anyday, and I'll gladly trundle along and take in all the natural splendours along the way.
We're not planning anything too mind-blowing as regards bringing in the New Year.
There's the usual hordes that gather around Trafalgar Square for one huge party for example, but we're really enjoying this festive season in and around our first house, so we might just invite a few close friends over.

Season's Greetings everyone!!!!
Hope everyone had a blessed XMAS!
To those of you not working, count yourselves lucky. I'm one of the sad few people at work in the festive season, and it sucks.
I don't know why the cops were trapping XMAS day, it stormed here most of the day. I also saw them sitting cosily on the N1 yesterday, so I gave them the royal wave as I went by.
I'm going to Hartebeespoort dam for new years day. My sisters and her kids will be visiting, they are coming tomorrow.
I'm taking them to Gold reef city on Friday. There's a 4d theatre there that I believe is an amazing experience. They introduce smells and touch (like things brushing past you) in the movie.
Anyway, hope you guys have a fantastic festive season. Stay safe on the roads and watch out for the drunk drivers! |

We stopped over at Harties for a few hours on Xmas day on our way to Suncity. Both Harties and Suncity was packed but all good, forgot how much I enjoyed Suncity over Durban or CT!
I so want a house here!!!

I haven't been to the Hartebeestpoort Dam for over 13 years. We used to go on the bikes for a 'breakfast run' to a cafe there called 'Stywe Lyne' , I think. Not sure if it's still there.
There was always guys dicing along a stretch of road by 'The Bridge.'
I've never been to Sun City though; would like to still see the legendary place.
@ Siosal,
So you're one of the Vista pioneers...pardon my ignorance here, but wouldn't it have been better to wait until Vista has had a more proven stability/glitch-free track record ie. time for them to sort out any bugs, or is it in your line of work?
Anyway, good luck mate; let us know how you get on.
