Touch screen W960 Walkman® phone in stores before the holiday season

London, UK – 6th November 2007 – The W960 Walkman® phone will start to ship from November 2007, Sony Ericsson announced today. The W960, a potent combination of slim UMTS and Wi-Fi™ enabled phone with high performance media player, will be available in selected markets across the globe in time for the Christmas season.
The W960 was unveiled in June 2007 and marks a next generation of Walkman® phones. With room for up to 8,000 songs* and finger-touch navigation around playlists on the large touch screen, the days of taking an MP3 player and a phone with you are definitely over. The 2.6” display also serves as an excellent viewfinder for a 3.2 megapixel camera and as a widescreen for watching video in TV quality.
“The W960 has been generating a lot of consumer excitement since the day it was announced,” says Ben Padley, Head of Music Product Group at Sony Ericsson. “As the next instalment in our hugely popular Walkman® phone series, we are confident that this music mix of 3G phone, Walkman® player and quality camera will prove to be a hit, and a great complement to the rest of the range.”

Sony Ericsson’s Music Desk Stand MDS-65 will also hit stores at around the same time. The Sony Ericsson W960 Walkman® phone is UMTS 2100-GSM/GPRS 900/1800/1900 and will be available in Vinyl Black from November 2007.

Awesome news! It's been a very long wait for the W960i.
As soon as anyone knows where it will be available for purchase in Australia please post it ASAP. |

-no more Bluetooth headset
-late
-may even arrive after P5i
pfffftttt... all that excitement and hype...
maybe I'll just run out and get the P1i... then get the P5i when it comes out.
Sigh... was looking forward to this being my first "W" phone (mainly cuz orange is my fav color and I love music)

Sony Ericsson delays UK launch of W960
6 November 2007 23:01 GMT - Sony Ericsson has confirmed to Pocket-lint that although some territories will be getting the new W960 Walkman phone in November as confirmed in a press release from the Swedish company, UK customers will have to wait a further two months until January before they can get their hands on the new touchscreen phone.
"There will be no W960 until January," David Hilton, head of marketing, Sony Ericsson UK told Pocket-lint.
The news is likely to be a disappointment to UK customers hoping to get the new handset before Christmas and those looking for an alternative Apple's iPhone.
"With such a crowded market for new phones before Christmas, we have decide to wait until the new year to launch the handset," a spokesman told us at the Sony Ericsson launch event in central London.
The device, which will offer a keypad and touchscreen interface is the new flagship model in the company's Walkman range.

Bad for SE, they keep waiting until the sw is not buggy.....this takes so long tht other competitors come with better ideas even before its realesed and the people who were waiting to buy it since many months will feel a bit depressed after such a long wait..........
I personally like Walkman Series, but Come on SE, cant you be brave enough to annouce a release date for a top-end phone??? Shame on you!!!

Oh no, so now the Bluetooth headset is removed from the retail package! (confirmed by the latest white papers)
I thought that after almost 6 months of waiting for this phone, we would get something extra as an apology for delaying so much, but actually they take sth away! What the ?????
Sorry to say, but i'm now rapidly losing all my remaining faith in SE..... |
