Yup, Agile Messenger is still free for me here in the US. I keep getting the new version notification though, which I always cancel. Hehehe. I'm guessing the newer version is a trap to start charging me. |

Well, its finally happened. Agile Messenger finally caught me. They wouldn't let me continue using the application without updating the current software. Man, I wonder if I should use verichat then. Any other few messengers out there? |

If you only use MSN, I highly recommend jMSN Messenger:

I've used both this and Agile and, for me, jMSN comes out on top.
A big difference is that jMSN lets you use the return key on the keypad (or virtual keyboard) to send a message, just like in the 'real' Messenger. Agile does not.
It connects significantly quicker too (or, rather, Agile is quite slow to connect).
It's available for a one-off payment of around $20. Bear in mind that Verichat requires a subscription (IIRC).

I moved away from Agile to Verichat. If I was going to pay for an app it wasn't going to be Agile, which takes forever to sign on and even then didn't always.
Verichat is fast, works in flip closed mode and is overall pretty good. There's a few things I don't like about it:
1) It uses a proxy server. You don't connect directly with the IM services, but rather via Verichat's servers. This is why it's so fast, but it's also a problem if Verichat decide next year to shut down, you're left with an app that won't work anymore
2) There's no history save. Once you've closed the app all messages are lost.
I've emailed them asking for a update to save history, I know there won't be an update for number 1 but I'll be amazed myself if I'm still using my P910i in 2 years time... |

For the record, jMSN Messenger *doesn't* use a proxy server (connects directly), *and* has a history save function! |

Verichat are owned by intellisync now so there should be fewer worries about the service stopping. I've been using it for two weeks now and it's great! The flip closed use is brilliant and saves huge money compared to text if one should go over any free allowances. the good thing is that even minimised you get an onscreen alert if someone sends a message. |

Well think the IM networks should start blocking Agile messenger, they spent long enough trying to block open-source (free) clients like jabber (yahoo and msn especially), so i dont see why they should allow a 3rd party to charge users for accessing their networks when they provide the desktop version of their messengers for free themselves. Agile messenger are making profit from riding on the back of other companies messenger networks, and not showing any of the advertising which supports the cost of running these networks.
Is there any decent jabber clients for UIQ? i know there are some for j2me |

Agile is free if you reside in a 'poor' country. I use it and like it a lot. They've send me automaticaly a free key :-) with my last upgrade a few moths ago. I love Jabber and use it a lot, but I am not aware of any 'good' J2me implementations.

hello friends!
i found some older agile releases on my harddisk and i tested it.
the newer versions are blocked and you need to register, but the older ones are free.
version 3.13 is working (incl. sending pictures, but without push to talk)
version 3.42 won't work (with push to talk)
mabe someone has archived the releases between, so we can find out the latest free version.

I dont like the idea of my username and password passing through other peoples/companies servers.
Which msn apps connect directly to msn? |
