I did this few weeks back. I changed from my 128 back to the stock 32 meg card. I even put all the ringing tones and everything directly on the phone rather than having them read from the card to no avail. It is the phone, pure and simple. I you are having some success with the card out can only mean that your phone is having some serious issues.
One thing I will try is another sim card, from another network provider. I am currently using Sonera in Finland and my phone is the boot machine. I will try a Vodecrap, I mean Vodafcuk, er Vodafone and then see what happens.

rang if from when it was sat on the metal base of my pc (and monitor, its all in one) and it went funny and rebooted yes....
interesting.
however, called the partner's V800 on vodafone and that didnt reboot at all... however, all SE (and watchdog) will say is why are you putting it right on a metal surface or near mangnetic items, such as the warning in the manual says not to put it near any other magnetic items.

Good point CSI.
Does it say not to place near any magnetic or metallic items?

AFAIK its standard in the manuals to shove that in, covers them in the eventuality |

Just read the manual. Can not find anything anywhere in there about metal, or TV's. Just mentions medical equipment, and explosive environments. So, they have a problem with their product.

Problem is, they'll ask why you put the phone in that situation, however the coins one will be interesting for them to answer. But I honestly dont think watchdog are worth it. Look how they made out that it was sony ericssons fault for the k700 - when actually its 02's for having a crap sms system that they havent touched since 97! |

Well, the truth is. When I am working on my computer, I either have it connected to the phone via BluePhoneElite and use the handsfree, thus laying the phone next to or on my computer. This should not be something out of the ordinary. If I decide to call, the phone and computer are in proximity. There is no warning about using the phone like this and SE could not hold me responsible because their phone acts this way.

Hey guys, it is official. I just got off the phone with SE. They know that there is a problem with the rebooting caused by interference from metallic surfaces, possible electronic, the moon and stars, solar flares, earth quakes, natural and man made disasters.
Bottom line is, we now have a leg to stand on when it comes to getting a new phone or something. At the very end, SE has to give our money back. It was also mentioned that SE is looking at a way to maybe try and resolve the problem via a software upgrade.
So, everyone call SE and make it known that the word is out and they need to do something about it.

Fascinating!
Away from electrical equipment: works fine. Using an MP3 as ringtone (on 128Mb Sony card). Also works fine on large earthed metal objects.
Near computer equipment: reboots.
Near Hifi equipment and laptop: Doesn't reboot, but rings with the standard ringtone (ie not the MP3 on the card)....
So, I removed the card and tried it on the computer again. Works fine!
Put the card back in - reboots half the time, and the other times it's OK but doesn't play the MP3.
This really seems to be a problem with EMI afftecting the card reader. Sometimes the phone copes with the card reading error, other times it just crashes.
BTW my phone is a generic model with R3K. I took it to a service centre for the latest firmware, but the firmware upgrade killed the phone. When a new one came the service centre did a QA check on the replacement phone and found it to be "faulty, just like your last one". Then this one arrived and they declared it "OK". Still reboots, but at least now we know the cause.
EDIT: I wrote this post before I saw the one above...

I got my S700i O2 branded with R3L on saturday. I have just tried to get it to reboot but it wont. I have tried calling from it and calling the phone with it on £25 worth of coins, on my hifi and even in (yes in) my PC. It wont reboot in any of those situations. I have tried some of the above with the memory stick in and with it out with the same results. It will not reboot.

Consider yourself lucky. SE acknowledges that there is a problem with the phone.
