when we went to japan, we have to borrow a japanese phone from out network prvider...
then they gave us N6650, put our simcard, use it here, then used it in japan.
6650 and 6630 has same network system
im assuming z1o1o can work in japan bec z1010 is using umts, w/c is wcdma too, we will try it when we go back to japan again.
v800 and z1010 have same network config right?

I just got back from Hong Kong, I was able to get my V802SE's software replaced w/ Z800 software for only $10 in Mongkok (i can post details on the location if anyone is interested).
Apparently HK people love the 802's dual WCDMA and GSM capabilities so they are importing a lot of them for use on HK's 3G network.
Unfortunately even though I asked them to just unlock the sim, they completely replaced all the software... which has its pros and cons:
pros -
* no more vodafone live!
* get back the lost functionality that vodafone's software removes
* can write in traditional chinese characters (pinyin or stroke count entry methods)
* DRM BS completely gone! (yeah! the soundquality on the media player is really quite good, this phone kicks ass as an MP3 player!)
cons -
* i lost japanese text input.
* for some reason most japanese text that already might be in the phone (either by email, in a contact's name, etc) comes out as square blocks EXCEPT when you go to the edit text screen, in which case the hiragana and kanji all come out properly (strange)
* lost all the vodafone japan settings (i should have written them all down
* had to reload my contacts, etc.
But i love having the mp3 capabilities back on this phone. Its the main reason i wanted to get it, and now i finally can use this phone the way its designers intended (despite the best efforts of Vodafone japan to turn it into a useless piece of junk).
ONE THING i need help on. Does anyone have the MMS server settings for Vodafone japan? I was able to find the wap settings online, so i can get onto the net, but i can't access my keitai email til i get the mms server's name.
any help? thanks. |

ok, i think i found a partial solution (somewhat by accident).
I got something in the mail from vodafone saying that there was a software bug fix that they were offering for 802SEs. I took my phone in to get the upgrade. (my phone previously having been changed to the unlocked Z800 firmware).
i was expecting it to completely replace everything, but in fact it only appears to have replaced a few parts of the firmware and not touched the other (altered) ones.
for whatever reason the email portion has been replaced, so now i can recieve my vodafone email, and also type in japanese again (but the chinese input i had is gone now). not having this really sucked. But unfortunately it appears as if the pop email capabilities that the Z800 software added are now gone again.
BUT on the brighter side, the mp3 capabilities of the media player are retained. this is the biggie. Also the camera software appears unaltered (ability to turn off the shutter sound and do digital zoom). And perhaps most importantly, the phone appears to still be sim unlocked (the other biggie).
Other minus include the return of the stupid vodafone menu choices and icons. also it looks like the ability to use mp3s as ringtones has also been redisabled.
well can't win them all.
So if you're in japan, you probably should have gotten something in the mail about this. if you haven't, just go down to a vodafone store and pretend like you did and ask them to upgrade the software, if you're lucky they'll do the same thing.
In my case since i am going back to HK in a few weeks, i wasn't too worried if they screwed something up, since i have the opportunity to put the Z800 software back on. |
