It could cause problems when trying to update it. Unfortunately I dont think you can find out until you try to update it. Was it a phone company offering the phone free for £30 a month?

After upgrade of my unbranded phone from Norway:

R3F008 prgCXC 125935_EU_1_T

LCD: 200211260
Camera: 1.0
ITP: CXC 125 942 A2A

Customization:
CDA 102300/19 R 1A cxc 125941 R3F008 EU_4

The menus seems a little bit more responsive. Keylock turns off when you slide the lid.

@Freestyle,

Not true. Read my previous posts. I am here in Kuwait and had a similar problem but, but, but I was still able to get my phone upgraded. It seems that SE does not like the fact that people are using third party servers to download the software, so they make it hard. I had to call all the way back to Germany and speak with SE there. They in turn put me in contact with the guys that sold me my phone in the first place. If you still have the box, locate the DPY number as this tells the SE service point, your localization customizations. The SE service point will have to request that SE allow them to connect to the appropriate server to download the proper package in accordance with your DPY number. Scream, shout and be totally unpleseant until they do this for you. I was lucky as I have a friend here in the SE service point. Bottom line, the software can be upgraded. Hope this helps.

Cheers.

No and it probably won't for good reason. People will take photos of people without their knowlege. It is more a less a security feature for people who do not know they are being photographed.

N82(YES), iPhone 3G, Shure es530, Nikon D300, more stuff. No more SE stuff, why am I still here?

I can understand that it is intended as a security feature, but in the UK it's not the law and if someone wanted to take perv picks then they can get a Nokia or Samsung which doesnt make any noise.

I just find the shutter annoying and to loud

I know there is a firmware out there where the silence option shuts it up, but don't know which it is, so if anyone can point me in the right direction, it would be appreciated

I do not think that there is silencing software, but actually an internal hack. I.E., you have to turn the phone to silent. Next just becasue something is not "illegal" does not make it unethical. I agree that the sound can be annoying but I also understand SE's reason for having it there. I am sure, that if someone naked ass appeared on the Internet somewhere, lawyers in the States would be foaming at the mouth to sue SE. Better to have the annoyance.

Yes, but my point is that if someone wanted to do that, they would just buy one of the other phones that can be silenced. eg Nokia 7610, Samsung D400

With the R3F008 firmware in silent mode, there is no sound when taking pictures.
