The theme is indeed Depth of Field, it doesn't say small or large DOF, the macro photos have a very small DOF, the bus a large one.

From Wikipedia

In optics, particularly as it relates to film and photography, depth of field (DOF) is the distance between the nearest and farthest objects in a scene that appear acceptably sharp in an image. Although a lens can precisely focus at only one distance at a time, the decrease in sharpness is gradual on each side of the focused distance, so that within the DOF, the unsharpness is imperceptible under normal viewing conditions.

In some cases, it may be desirable to have the entire image sharp, and a large DOF is appropriate. In other cases, a small DOF may be more effective, emphasizing the subject while de-emphasizing the foreground and background. In cinematography, a large DOF is often called deep focus, and a small DOF is often called shallow focus.

I know the definition for depth of field but i understand this thread. Is meant for high depth of field.. Correct me. If I'm wrong.. Its upto destiny to clarify...

@Idumbakumar
If what you say is true, then other entries don't stand a chance against N8 or Pureview 808 as they have physical advantage for depth of field

Because there were just too many nature shots

I've tried taking several DoF related shots this month, waiting to see what votes I get and see what people think. Unfortunately, i just got the casual 1 vote or the new trend: 5-6 trolling. This gets sadder with each upload.

Best of luck to all of you.

I missed the last month just because I was travelling and by the time I got a good shot I was in Kathmandu and didn't get out until the comp closed

Anyway, this month I made a trip to the Temple of Heaven and the sprinklers were on.

I thin this just about fits the topic. Close near stuff, far stuff...

I got very wet taking this photo if that'll earn me a sympathy vote

I agree with idumbakumar. I know what you mean Marly saying that your shot is example of large DOF (I haven't predicted that while I was opening the theme) but it looks like ordinary shot. Even if it’s DOF it’s quite flat because of bus takes most of the frame.

If you got no time to take another shot lets just assume that it’s example of large DOF but I’m afraid that large DOF are still reserved mostly for digital cameras.

@ mode - great reverse DOF. Very nice shot. I think that's not important if someone's got N8 or Pure View 808 phone. Great concept of the shot could win with every ordinary shot taken from that two phones mentioned above. Last competitions has shown that old phones are still able to win.

@ biosx - your DOF is also very nice.

@ TTT and Ricky D – good to see you both back in track in monthly competition. I Guess that Ricky also wanted to present large DOF example

Shame to admit that but I haven’t snapped a single shot from mobile phone this month except for that day when Poland and Russia were playing football versus each other in Warsaw @ Euro 2012. I’ll try to hunt for some DOF this weekend. Nice to see so many entries again.

It's really nice to see many entries again.
I suggest we leave the "large DOF" in and let the voting round speak for quality. If a photo fits in the rules of the theme, it's valid. And just like tennis, on the edge of the line is still in

I didn't even try to shoot something, I better hurry too

Keep them coming guys and dolls.

My first thought was, to have only the bus in the picture, tbh , when zoomed in, it's visible, that the back of the bus is sharp, while the first word of the text is already a bit out of focus, so there's DOF on the bus itself. But I didn't have much time, because my husband was waiting in the car and I couldn't take another position, due to the traffic. So I took 4 pics, from which this one fits my original plan best, imo.
Considering, that "Macro" already had been last month's theme, I didn't foresee, that almost everybody would take the macro approach this month again.
