Blackberry are in a pickle right now. And my brother and sister in law are upgrading to them too. Oh dear. You cannot say no Sony product is going to ever beat Samsung devices. Nobody knows whats around the corner even when it comes to Sony.

MySpace and Friendster were ON TOP just a couple of years ago... and now?
Apple was all but dead a year before Steve Jobs came back in 97.
Nokia shares were like gold before Apple came into the picture (their least expected threat)
... for all we know, the next big company in the next 2 years hasn't even been incorporated yet because the founder is still graduating middle school.

Yeah Huawei wanna be the next big thing. Would have been great if Sony Ericsson had Steve Jobs on board. There are many tech heads out there waiting to be the next big thing.

As the saying goes, every dog has it's day and there is always a cooler, trendier product just around the corner and it's not difficult - when looking back at the industry just five years ago - to imagine what it could be like five years from now, the landscape could have completely changed.
Apple's iPhone is so mainstream now they're like the new Nokia. Samsung is riding high at the moment, winning awards over the iPhone and Nokia is about to up it's game, as will Sony Ericsson next year. I wouldn't right any of them off just yet, and don't forget ZTE.

Yes ZTE and with all these big ear east brands from Korea Japan and China they may be over taking Apple by next year who knows. Or maybe not. How fast Android came about too and i am glad cos i think it saved Sony Ericsson.

I agree. Poor form to blame Ericsson. It's a joint venture but Sony Ericsson is a separate company, working under it's own management. If Sony don't want to contribute consumer technology to the joint venture, it's because they are trying to weaken SE to make Ericsson think about being bought out (at a low price). Ericsson has leadership in networks (LTE for example) and Voice technology. The facts is they have an equal fifty percent to contribute. A phone is not just about flashy smartphone features; it still has to function well as a mobile phone. Left to their own devices, Sony will make proprietary, ergonomically inferior handsets pandering to the other arms of the Sony empire (designed to lock you into Sony at the cost of broader functionality).
Under Sony design will be driven by what sells more Sony technology, and not what makes the best smartphone handset. This is not the way to bring SE back into market leadership. Sony Ericsson are relying on Ericsson more than ever, to ensure the company remains relevant and flexible to the demands of the modern smartphone market.
When you think about it, why should SE have to use Sony technology if it's not the best technology out there? Surely it's in Sony's best interest to have to compete for Sony Ericssons dollar just as it does for other mobile oems? If they allow themselves to suck off the blood of SE because they want a cushy market for their consumer electronics technologies it's just gonna bring both companies down. The fact that Sony are only now looking at buying Ericsson out, is A SUREFIRE SIGN that SE is a going concern. They are thinking if they buy Ericsson out now, the mobile phone division will become a cash cow that they can milk the crap out of. They are too greedy to see that in the long run it's going to kill their aspirations of having a market leading mobile brand.
I don't know who the hell Tim Charlton is but he doesn't have a clue about business and competition.
Stick with it Ericsson! Don't sell!

I remember now they made Bluetooth. I also remember the LiPol batteries which lasted for ages & could be made to any size as far as I remember. I think the magnesium frame & Lipol battery was in phones like the t39 which I loved!! As for colour screens yes the original t68 was one of the first but I think Siemens were the first to make a colour screen phone with a model called the s25 I think but it had no back light. This model was one of the first ever colour phones I THINK along with Ericsson t68
