Just wanted to say, that although bluetooth can be a pain... when it works.... ITS GREAT!!! I have a tungsten t and i use it to connect to my t68i for internet, also i can use it to connect to the bluetooth on my computer so i acan surf the interent anywhere in the house and its not like a bulky laptop.
Bluetooth is not like wifi, in order to do networking with it, you must have a ppp server. In winxp and win2000 this can be done through windows RAS, in older systems it can be done through a prog called mocha ppp. I hope in the future, they will make a phone that can use this, then you'd be able to have wap and stuff done through the bluetooth. |

It would be good to see this thread invigorated, as a general discussion point it's been a good read.
Firstly, my own mixed experience, then potential items of interest...
I am a classic 'mobile warrior' - in sales, on the road, miles from any office: so I've had to create my own.
Originally had an old Gateway notebook running '98 SE and added a Belkin F8T001 dongle to support my T68i.
Eventually got all the configurations right and was wrapped to be able to...
- send pix, sound, sms (print), v-card, v-calender, WAP Bookmarks to my PC simply by pressing 'Send via BT' on the T68.
- drag 'n drop the same onto 'Inbox' in T68 services under My Bluetooth Places and all would appear in my phone.
(The Belkin s/w version even allowed for v-calender entries to be automatically collated straight into Outlook calender!)
Also...
- connect web/pop3 via GPRS/BT on my PC using T68 as modem
- same for fax
Only prob was couldn't get Plantronics M1000 headset to work with PC but understood not a supported profile.
Finally got my much awaited Toshiba Tablet PC (with onboard Bluetooth PCI & Win XP) and things have not been the same since!
Only just got web / fax working but I have to set up a Com port connection manually first - didn't have to do that before with the Belkin. Tried the Belkin as well but no joy at all this time.
I don't have My Bluetooth Places and don't even know if I should (Toshiba has its own BT utility called 'Service Centre')
Can anyone confirm/deny necessity of 'My Bluetooth Places' folders?
Strangely the Toshiba seems to recognise the following T68i services-
- OBEX Object Push
- Fax
- Dial-up Networking
- IrMC Synchronization
- Serial ports 1 & 2
- Voice gateway
...so it seems as if the right profiles are available, although does this mean the Toshiba BT only recognises them as being on the T68i without necessarily supporting them?
My earliest experiences gave me great optimism, but now I feel great frustration as I've seen what's possible.
Re- earlier discussions about using a BT headset profile on a PC...I have an automatic answer - YES PLEASE!
I've been setting up the Voice Recognition s/w in Tablet PC edition and it's fantastic!
I just want to be able to use one headset for both phone calls and alternatively issuing Voice commands to my PC (handy while driving, among other things).
I agree with earlier comments about mobile carriers being scared of 'Cordless' and 'Intercom' profiles, but wouldn't it be great?
My keenest interest apart from the above is actually in seeing whether PC s/w can monitor a mobile phone's comms for CTI functionality (Computer Telephony Integration) via Bluetooth.
Does a prog. like MPM or Mobile Navigator 'read' info from phone via BT without a 'fixed' connection required? (ie. passively)
I've noticed using Mob.Nav. that the BT 'connected' symbol seemed to be ABSENT on the T68i at the time...
Wish list-
- Screen pop from PIM (eg Outlook) based on incoming call ID
- live call record info (eg. time, num. dialled etc) on PC
- call recording or answering machine (even voicemail, auto attendant function) support for mobile by PC
- initiate a call from PC via BT to phone, then have this original BT link dropped automatically (after it's initialised the call) so that the BT headset can take over. (sounds simple, but having no joy)
Sorry about the verbosity- hope it helps others (or perhaps u can help me)

Nobody seems to answer my question regarding about the treo 600 plus BT Card and BT headset. Hope you guys can help me out. Is there a card card for the treo 600 coz I really wanna know if my BT headset can work with a treo 600 with the BT card if evers theres any. Thanks and hope to hear fr you guys soon. |

When i try to connect my T610 via Bluetooth to my PC it never brings up any applications to use in conjunction with the transfer - effectively rendering my USB BT adaptor useless... any ideas?
Also can any1 tell me if it is possible to download SMS TXT messages to ur pc via BT??

I got BELKIN USB adapter for christmas yesterday so i installed it but when i inserted the adaptor into the usb port it didn't start up the new found hardware wizard and thats why i don't think it working. A small box did appear and it said a few things about a new device found then dissapered. everything is normal with the program i think apart from i can't connect to my T610? it doesn't even show up on a search from either my comp or phone. i realy could do with a person 2 person help through MSN or AOL so if any1 wouldn't mind pming me there addy that would be so great! i have all these grat themes and stuff on my comp and want to get it on my phone!!!! lol

I have a Parrot handsfree in car and Ipaq, phone is a T610. Is it possible to use a dial-up networking connection while the Parrot handsfree is on. If so please explain how

I just bought that Bluegene BT-301U adaptor and it works perfectly well with my T610 and T68i.You can do the basic things with it like:
-Dial-up networking
-exchange files between Phone & PC
-browse files on Pc from the phone (T610 only)
-send faxes (T68i only)
-access COM ports for both phones (I have no Idea what use can u
find for this but its in the "available services" menu)
The only thing that's kinda weird is that with a SE phone (at least the ones made in the last few years) you get a CD with software and drivers,and there was a T610 Bluetooth Modem driver on mine but when I install it the PC doesn't find it AT ALL!Otherwise you can still use the software that comes with the adapter to make a dial-up connection but its kinda complicated especially if you use a GPRS connection like me.

You both should have a Software CD supplied with your adapter - check it out.It just wont work either - it's not like the Infrared - just align the phone next to the PC n everything's ok.BTW I've tried the some BELKIN about a few month's ago n I had the same problem - New hardware found>your hardware is installed and ready to use >and then nothing.As I said there should be some software on the CD that came with the adaptor.

hello! i hve a Billionton BT wireless modem wc i use successfully 2 navigate the web using my h1940 ipaq thru BT connection. The fone jack connects directly 2 the modem no need to use a PC.
Now i got me a P800 n i tried 2 use the dial up settings of the P8 to connect to the Billionton BT modem but it wont. i had it paired successfully, but when i use dial up settings the P8 uses its own dialer n dials up the isp directly to connect. it does connect but in our islands this is considered a data call n u get billed per minute of usage. is there ANY way 4 the P8 to dial out using BT modem? thx |

Great forum. I hope one of you can help me with a problem that is driving me absolutely insane. I have bought a SE T610 and wants to syncronize with outlook on my PC via bluetooth I can't set up the virtual serial connection. I have tried everything, but it still says: "can't find the phone". In extendblue manager it can detect my device but when I display services it only shows DUN and generic networking. The phone is visible i bt settings, the software is installed and the right com port is activated. What is wrong????
Please help me fast before I go nuts.

would it be clever to compare bluetooth to wifi? are the comparisonable?? i am doing a project on the likes of this for school thats all.
i could compare wifi to 3g phones,
or bluetooth to some other wireless medium
any ideas?

They both operate around the same frequency, which meant that Bluetooth used to interfere with Wireless networking. Don't think it does anymore. They both operate around the 2.4Ghz - 2.48Ghz range. Think you can get WiFi which is 5.1Ghz aswell.
Bluetooth outputs less power than Wifi, that's why it will only work within 10metres.

You can't really compare it with 3G phones because that's different. They just work the same as any other cellular phone. The area is divided into cells. Cells next to each other must have different frequencies, but cells which are 1 cell away from another (if you get what i mean). Can operate on the same frequency. The frequency isn't as high either. 850/900/1800/1900. Depending on your country.
