P1i Green Tint on Photos - FIXED by firmware???? |

Well, like as stated perviously, it could be a lens issue (incomplete coating or something???) but ruling out the CMOS as a possiblity would be kind of strange. I mean when I first posted this issue, only a handful of those with the P1i stated they had a problem. When I posed this issue to Rafe over at All About Symbian.com, he stated that he couldn't find this problem in his unit (although I supposed Sony could have sent him a good one). Keep in mind this was supposed to be a production unit. Sony themselves have sort of taken a "if it gets big enough we'll deal with it" attitude. At least that's what there responses have been to my e-mails. It's really too bad cause I really like this phone. By the way if anyone is wondering, the camera on the Tytn is not bad but the noise levels suck and there's no flash, which became an evident problem when my friend was trying to take pictures (I gleefully took my pictures with that torch of a flash hehehe). Anyways, they better fix this stupid problem before my warranty is up or else I'm gonna get pissed! |

There's an idea I've been toying with, which is kinda a round about way to deal with the issue and isn't exactly very convenient. However, it should be able to "fix" the photo if it really matters that much. Anyway, the rough idea is that if you take a picture of a flat neutral grey subject, this will capture the colour cast. If this image can be used to "subtract" from subsequent images, it should effectively cancel out the cast present in those images. I suspect it might be possible to do so in Photoshop and thus make it into an action. However, I have no idea how to do this. Any photoshop gurus out there want to give it a shot? |

Might work, same technique which is used for noise reduction with high shutter speeds. My digicam, when set to high shutter speed (>1 second for example) actually takes 2 shots. One 'normal' shot and one 'black' shot which is used to estimate noise and remove it from the first shot... works pretty damn well actually.
On the other hand, it shouldn't be possible in this case! When paying 400 to 500 euros for a device you might expect it at least functions as claimed or that it gets fixed (although the P990 proves me to be wrong there). |

The issue is really starting to bother me. SE again manages to ignore a rather irritating flaw. Its been 2 months and plenty of time to either acknowledge the issue or take care of it.

As far as I know they've acknowledged it and I heard something about them saying it will be addressed in the next (november?) firmware. |

This is great news. I have contacted with SE Customer Support Turkey and they said they haven't had such an issue with their P1s . I knew that SE was avare of the problem so I didn't gave them any evidence or something further

Well, this is what they wrote to me when I asked (over a month ago):
Problemet som ni beskriver angående kameran i telefonen är felrapporterat och kommer lösas i en kommande programvara.
(..the problem you describe is reported [already] and will be fixed in a coming firmware [update])
I'm sure noone actually has a definitive statement from SE on the problem, though, or know for certain whether it's only a software problem - so, it's all just assumption so far when/if the fix turns up (or whether the fix would be "final").
Anyway - it probably wouldn't hurt to have more people nag them about it once in a while. It's a serious issue, after all, if you're using the camera. And maybe if you're not as well, if the problem is there because of some weakness in a component. Because that would be problematic with the battery life, and could damage other components, and so on.
And I mean, it's not unthinkable that this is the problem. SE Phones have been recalled for this reason before, and improved in later batches, so.. |

SE should bring that FW out ASAP. People read about the green tint and I think this might change their choice of buying P1 and then they can buy N95 or something instead.
SE would want to provide as less FW as they could in order to fix problems with just a couple of FW's which will help their reputation. But they should be fast with this one.

There's no doubt a process going on with the firmwares that takes a while and costs a few bucks - and they've probably not had enough complaints to do something extraordinary - so, there's presumably a roll- up firmware scheduled some time later on.
Still, again - if people don't call or write to complain.. |

It seems I've found the bug on the P1 camera => it's on the White Balance settings.
Photo with *automatic* white balance (correct colors):
Same location now with *Natural Light* white balance (wrong colors)
The building is *PINK* not yellow!!
So, the trick is:
=> To avoid taking pictures with the wrong white balance, DON'T use the Natural Light.
=> If the camera even in Auto, shows the wrong colors, go to the settings and choose a different White balance manualy.
That's a nasty bug...

What do you mean "bug"? Of course the colors will be wrong if the white balance is wrong... If "auto" doesn't chose what seems right to you, you'll have to decide yourself what works best. |

It's a bug because the Natural Light is the same as Day Light (the case)... unless someone proves me wrong. |

"Daylight" has many different temperatures. There's no one setting that will fit all. |
