This is obviously a manufacturers flaw with the handset.
I really think should just stick to making candybar's. This is the first non-candybar phone that I really liked the look of, I wouldnt buy one though because the specs are too low, but I thought it is a really nice fashion phone. Its a big shame about the breaking keys.
i say:
w850
w550
z610
z530
those models don't look much like a candybar to me, do they?
Um check the bold now in my post.
Your ignorance surprises me ! If u bothered to read on it said: This is the first non-candybar phone that I really liked the look of
Pay more attention in future...

I've returned mine to place of purchase and they refunded the cost of the phone but not shipping. They claim that SE will not take it back so I guess maybe their not acknowledging the keypad is faulty although I've read several posts in here that says they have.
I want to give the phone another chance so bad, guess I'll wait and see if we hear that they are redesigning/upgrading materials. |

I just like to say so far the yellow one I have been using since day 1 it was launched, is still ok. Keypad sturdy and nothing wrong. My colleague who is using the black one is also fine. Hmm... I really wonder why it happened. Our sets are bought from Singapore. Is there any diference in terms of manufacturing location in Asia?
Curious!!! :? |

It's weird but in a french SE forum there are a lot of people who bought the S500 but NO ONE is complaining about any broken key,is it a different production? are the people who are claiming here that the keys broke bought prototypes? are they simply nokia spies that are trying to use the first and unique true complaint of broken keys(proto) as a general threat for all the commercial ones?
I don't know who to trust till I buy the phone or if a poll is made...

we have 2 cases of broken keys in belgium. about 800 phones sold.
With Ericsson and Nokia gone: we must keep their spirits alive and buy JOLLA or YOTA |

Nokia spies vegetaleb, thats very funny (or paranoid). Just listen to how people here love every other aspect of the phone, and check their past comments/years as Esato member, you will see this makes no sense.
I guess your right about the not trusting people on the internet though. But this probelm has been clearly acknowledged by SE. |

Hey Bart.
Seems like Belgium hasn't been spared from this problem indeed! I bought mine about 3 weeks ago, 2 keys were broken one week later...
But! When I went to the shop (Mediamarkt) to replace my phone, all black S500i's were sold out... I've been calling a couple of times to ask if they were back in stock, but after two weeks they still haven't arrived!!! Seems a bit strange for a brand new phone to be out of stock for more than 2 weeks...
I have a feeling SE has recognised the problem and is currently up to something! Let's hope.... |

It's official now. Sony Ericsson said that the green paint goes into reaction with the plastic (an unexpected reaction) and weakens it. That's why you don't see yellow S500 phones with this problem, cause the yellow paint is made of a different chemical. They also said that the phones which are released after the 27. week will no longer have this problem, and older phone owners who have this problem will have their handsets fixed by SE.
I found this on a hungarian portal: http://www.mobilport.hu/?r=10469

Does anyone have information on how they are replacing the keypad? Are they just giving those w/ broken pads brand new phones produced after wk 27 or are they actually just replacing the pad? My phone is currently being serviced to fix the keypad and I'm afraid that they are replacing just the keys which are broken or replacing my keypad with another S500i keypad that is manufactured w/ the old chemical.
Also, what is a site where I can buy mobile phone spare parts, of course a S500i keypad is not out yet, but from what site would likely offer it once they are available? I'm leaving the country I purchased my phone in 5 days and so after that I'll be on my own to replace the keypad if it breaks again and I do not know where to purchase SE mobile spare parts, any help? |
