Apple's build quality and the way in which their products just work are attractive, even though I like SE very much. Probably the biggest reason I'll probably get an iPhone is that I'm a Mac user, and seamless integration and syncing with my computer will be great.

Agreed. I'm a Mac user as well, and would love to have perfect, seamless Address Book, iCal, and iTunes integration, all in one device. However, my W810 does all of that, albeit with 50% as much integration... and also about 50% of the price.

Besides that, I'll likely stick with and ignore the iPhone for the following reasons:

  1. What does Apple know about mobile telephony? I suspect early adoption will be extremely painful.
  2. The small camera and lack of 3G reek of planned obsolescence. I'd be willing to best, once a great many people have purchased iPhone v1.0, iPhone v2.0 ill be released with 3G and > 3MP camera. On principle alone, this is a strike against Apple.
  3. SIM-free is the way to go. No single device should shackle me to a mobile phone carrier, especially not for 2 years.
  4. The lack of expandable memory slot is too limiting. Perhaps this is more planned obsolescence?
  5. From a NY times interview: "'Is there any wireless (Bluetooth or Wifi) syncing at all, for contacts and calendar?' –No." BZZZZZT! Wrong! Good bye, thanks for playing, here's your consolation toaster.
  6. Non-removable battery? No thank you. (Apple must really feel the need to sell more extended warranties.)

The screen size and technology are cool, but not cool enough for me to overlook the above.

Sorry, Apple, try again. I loved my iPod and I love the promise of convergence, but you're asking too much for your take on this.

For an $800 phone with no 3G, no WiFi, only a 2MP camera, a built-in battery, and a 2-year contract with Cingular/AT&T, I don't think I'll be getting the phone in a hurry. For that price, they should at least include one of those features. Besides, I don't feel quite right for any mobile carrier to lock me in a 2-year contract with them just so I can have the privilege to own the supposedly wonderful iPhone...hehehe. I'm quite sure that SE will come out with newer products to better combat the Apple iPhone or the Nokia N95. I can't wait for the day to come when forums from all over the country start popping up full of complaints from their Apple iPhone.

I've bought the first generation Apple product several times and each time it was a painful learning experience. I guess I'm a slow learner! I'd stay clear of a rev. A product, Apple or not. This may be a tough launch just by the fact that it's a whole new arena for the folks in Cupertino. Add to this the fact that the price looks sky high and some very basic features will be left out of this first model and you have a very compelling case for skipping this one.

If rev. B has the missing features of rev. A, and if the price comes down to earth, and if it works as advertised, then maybe I'll take another look in, say, 9 or 10 months. And even then I'll probably stick with tried-and-true SE.

I’ve got one, and you don’t. Nya nya-nya nya-nya nya.which presumably just pulls in the site’s RSS feed and re-skins it for the iPhone’s screen size.

I am addicted to phones now so leaving them wouldn't be that easy . After all I like the design and the functionality of the phones, the way the menus are organized and etc... so I would never change my phone for an i phone...

plankgaton sorry to pop your bubble but iPHONE will be better than K850, because its got tons of stuff K850 doesnt like 3.5inch screen, touch screen, WiFi, 8GB internal memory. iPHONE is not a camera phone so thats not even a comparison. The only real competitor from SE is W960
