How does this work then? as every PC i have plugged my k800i in to has asked for drivers? |

Just refuse them all. It did that when I plugged mine in to two different machines, and I just said no to each of them. I assume it then just uses the normal XP memory stick driver. Only thing which might be confusing issues is that I still have the K750 drivers installed, but I am sure that's not it.

Tom is correct - you don't need to install these drivers if you only want to access the files on the phone. The drivers are required to access the phone's functionality, not the filing system.
In terms of the texting issue that a few of us are having, I have to admit that I am a little confused.
I personally have experienced far more SMS typing errors than I would deem to be normal - most notably the phone intermittantly not recognising one of the keypresses I have made. However, I have done a few tests and it seems that the phone can keep up with pretty much any typing speed - at least most of the time.
It seems to me either the fact that I (and others) have simply not got used to the phone's keypad yet, there is some hardware issue with our keypads or that the phone itself is not reading the keypresses.
If the latter is the case then I guess it might be down to the multitasking OS and the occasional UI 'freezes' that are experienced with the phone. The keyboard, I would assume, will have some sort of buffer independant of the OS. If this gets full before the OS can read it's contents then this would result in lost characters.
Note that all the above is just pure speculation - I don't know the details of how the hardware or software is designed in the K800!

Yeah i have noticed this. I have found that i have to zoom in then out again to sharpen the pic.

This is intentional. The phone provides a low resolution, quickly rendered thumbnail of the picture so the user can quickly flip netween images without having to wait for a full resolution image to be rendered.
While the user is looking at the low resolution image, a high resulution image is rendered in the background and displayed in place of the low-res image as soon as it has been decoded.
This is another excellent feature of the K800. Compare the speed of flipping through the gallery of a K750 with that of a K800 and you will see what I mean - the lag is minimal. |

thanks to tomchadwin and mwarner for clearing up the issue in relation for using the k800 without drivers
Now, if only i could get opera mini to work correctly i would be 100% content. This is though, as you say, an excellent first firmware release and i am very happy with my phone

Opera Mini works great for me, usually much better than the built in browser.
http://mini.opera.com/ from computer or phone. Advanced version works fine.

Not true. When you capture a photo, the phone save the image as a JPEG file and this file consist of a large image and an internal 160 x 120 thumnail image. One JPEG file is acctualy two images. The small 160 x 120 image is not large enough to fill the K800 display and therefore looks blury while it renders the large image.

unfortunately, it doesn't entirely work here. I've installed the latest version of opera mini on my SE k800i, however, i've come across a strange problem. If you google for a site from the homepage when you start opera mini you can't select yes or no for the application to access the internet, you get asked the question but the yes/no options aren't there so you have to go to a bookmarked page first as the yes/no option shows up fine for that.
Any suggestions?

OK two things people,
Firstly
@mwarner
You're totally right, the K800 was made bullet-proof unlike the K750, luckily as far as the firmware is concerned its only minor niggles nothing major thank god!
Secondly, I have put an applications shortcut in my activitites menu thing (the small button on the right), however, once I push it, the menu disappears, and it takes a few seconds for the applications menu to appear, and thelist of applications isn't much? I presume its just firmware?
Cheers

ive got another niggle (rather a complaint i must say) that the sound of the media player is far too quiet. It's been noted by another user in another thread, so i dont think it's just me. My W800 (although a walkman handset), and without the megabass switched on, sounded much better and i believe this sound was equal in the K750. Also there were firmware updates to increase the volume levels on the K750/W800 so hopefully there will be something similar done for the K800 in the future. (nb im also using the HPM-70 when listening to music, not the headset included in the K800 box)
So maybe some peeps here could clarify this, and get this niggle added to the list on the first page?
thanks

Uninstall SE PC Suite and the drivers then insert the disk that came with the phone and install the drivers and software.
There is a newer version of PC suite on the SE website.
I had these problems with my PC which was resolved as above. Interestingly my laptop managed to transfer from the K750 to K800 fine. |

Hi guys,
I have had a number of sound related problems over the last few days with my phone. They all seem to be linked and happen at the same time. The list of problems is as follows:
The ringtone doesnt sound no matter what profile you are in. I have checked all the profiles and sound is enabled when it should be.
The media player fails to play a song in speaker mode stating "Playback of media failed".
The phone will not switch to speaker mode when in a call.
I have also had this problem once (At the same time as experiencing all of the above):
There is no sound in the earphone when in a call (No it wasnt transfered to my bluetooth headset although the headset does still work).
As a test i have tried going into the "Services Tests" menu and testing the Speaker and Earphone but neither test would open so i was unable to perform the tests.
All of these issues were resolved by switching the phone off and back on but as you can appreciate not having the ringtone play when you get a call can be really annoying.
Anyone else experienced anything similar?
RA.
