So, after making a few and watching my themes being rated over at M9 I realized that when you make themes it is important to have thick skin, because people will criticize your work. Looking at the rates my Apple OS X themes got, I first was a bit pissed off, since I did spend some amount of time making it. And to be honest, the biggest reason for me making themes is because no one else is.

In any case, looking back at the thoughts I got on the OS X theme I realized that I have to redo the whole theme. Thanks to the help from RoughJay here I have been able to ad some more features that is not in the theme creator. So I have been working on this for a couple of days. Not having an Apple computer myself, I do hope that I did catch the real essence of the OS this time. This theme is best used with the OS X icons in the start menu. Take a look and tell me what you think. I will post this for download on Mobile9 in a few hours.

@ mass: Glad you liked it. Thought some tones were pretty nice.

Glad to be of help - I notice you've got the icon highlight see through.

From the previews (which are never as good as the phone) that's a pretty good looking theme. One thing I did notice - the return button looks a little ragged around the edge. Could probably do with an alpha blended outline to smooth it off a bit.

Keep up the good work. Hopefully I'll be getting this phone some time next week, and will try to add my own contributions to the theme collection.

Thanks mate. Good point and it is unfortunatlly the same in the phone. How do I do a "alpha blended outline"?

I assume that the return button is saved as a PNG, with a transparent background. Basically you want an anti-aliased edge to the button image. How you do this (now you've already got the button) depends upon the software you're using.

If I was using Photoshop, I might do something along the lines of
- Select the button
- From the select menu (I think), feather the selection by 1 or 2 pixels
- Using the arrow keys on the keyboard, move the selection to the left one pixel and back to the right by a pixel

This should blur the edge of the button. It might be that you have to copy this selection, clear the entire image and paste the selection back. This will remove the hard edged part of the image that would otherwise be left behind.

Hope this is right - I'm taking this from memory and it's been a while since I used photoshop.

@RogueJay
Thanks bro. I have a look at it this weekend.

This Windows XP theme took some time. Uploaded now on M9.

I'm disappointed just how little customisation is allowed in a SE Skin. More like colour + wallpaper than a real skin.

I hope you feal that my two latest ones are a bit more than wallpaper and colours.

I do indeed, its EXCELLENT (There, you even get capitals ).

I've changed the 'dock' bit of the background to be a light off-white as that works better with my OSX apps icons.

Looking forward to further enhancements

Don't suppose you could take a look at the text when on a phone call. It sort of looks like blurred white on black - perhaps its white with a white outline. Doesn't look right to me!

Really like the theme though

@Lucas - I will see what I can find. I also noticed today that on the Contacts screen the highlight bar must have white text on white which is a little bit of a problem!

I am really trying to build a theme for M60o but the damn Theme Creator is so unhelpful. You cannot actually preview a very big list of things. I will like to pinpoint the most annoying of them here for "them" to see.

Activity Tab
-Misplaced Time, Date and Shortcut icons. Their actualy position on the phone is a few pixels down.
- You cannot see the selection block of the Shortcut icons
- Wrong colors on text and time

AppList Menu Tab
-Cascade Background, Classic Background are completly irrelevant with the actual graphics displayed on the phone. It seems that only "One Handed Background" actually works.

Calendar
-Irrelevant graphics used on the title area.

That any many more are so obvious bugs that I am really wondering who is actually building this software. It just takes 10-15 mins working with it to see the problems.

Hoping for an updated soon...

edit : I wonder if the actual tool for themes is the SDK emulator and Theme Creator is a joke. If anyone knows how to use the emulator of the SDK to preview themes it will be awesome to know.

Thanks for that info mate. The thing is that looking at that theme, I realized that the guy is using my images for his Vista Theme and then selling it...

That is not ok! Mobile9 Disclaimer clearly states the following:

"Disclaimer: This download is for personal use only. Kindly do not copy, modify, distribute or sell the whole or parts of this file without permission of the creator."

Being the guy that I am, I do not accept that someone is earning money on my work.

So, I sent the following notice to Handango, who distributes the themes, through, amoung others, My-Symbian.

--------------------------------------------------------

Hi,

I have noticed that S-PM Design, one of Handango’s partners/content providers, is selling themes for Sony Ericsson M600 on Handango website and your partner portals that are not rightfully his. I do own copyright on the themes and the material within the themes that I have produced and will not accept that another company is selling what I have created.

I can prove to you that I have published the themes on booth Esato.com (http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=123477) and Mobile9.com (http://www.mobile9.com/invboard/index.php?showtopic=24146) prior to S-PM Designs launch of the theme pack on your web site The copyright laws governing the US clearly states that the person who first publishes his work does own the copyright of the material published. Furthermore I can prove that the files are created within my computer, since I have the original psd file I used in Photo Shop to create the different layers and effects.

The reason I write to you is not because of the idea that I want to gain money on my creation (they have been published as free downloads), but rather that someone uses parts of what I have done to make money himself. This frustrates me.

So what I would like you to do is the following. Do not payout any revenue gained from the themes sold in this product to S-PM Design and prohibit him from keep selling the product.

http://www.handango.com/Platf[....]m600&productId=192471&R=192471

Instead I would like you to send that money (I know it is not much, but nevertheless) to the Children’s Cancer Fund as a Donation in the name of Handango and Lucas Johannes. This, I hope, will ensure you that I am not writing to you with a personal greed in mind.

My recommendation to you is to consider if this is the kind of company you would like to do business with. I will personally go through al the themes S-PM Design is selling to see if there is any more that I have created and I will also mention this to the people I know who creates themes, so they could find out if he is infringing on their copyright.

If you do not do as I have say, I will take legal action against S-PM Design, Handango and any other site were I can find my creations being sold. I would like written notice of your actions against S-PM Design within a reasonable time frame.

It is important that you know, that I do not hold a grudge against Handango or its partners and would nothing less than to solve this as simple as possible. I hope that you can understand and sympathise with my frustration.

Best regards

Luc

-----------------------------------------------------------

I will keep you posted on the process. In the meanwhile I will not publish any more themes and you can thank S-PM Design for this.

Cheers
Luc
