You think there won't be more phones this year? I think SE will launch another hundred or so before autumn.
There are going to be more Cyber-shot phones, for sure, so I wonder if one of these will get a better media player or more memory?
And, well, is 10 Walkman phones really enough? The K800 isn't out yet, but is it wrong to presume we will see a Walkman version? Probably not. The W850 was based on an older platform (no graphics accelerator, MS Pro Duo) presumably to get a slider out quickly.
Therefore, don't assume they're not working on a new one on the newer platform. SE seem to have a mission to have high-profile launches, so it's in their interest to keep holding back something special. It's only May!
I do think the W850i camera is going to be a big disappointment. The non-auto focus cameras REALLY struggle in low light, the resolution is actually lower (so it is less pixels), 1600x1200 instead of 1632x1224. This shows it is a completely different component, not the same sensor without the autofocus. Personally, I think anyone upgrading is going to be devestated if they got used to taking good pictures with their W800, W810 or W900.

I'd have to agree with chriswg52. SE should bring out a new series that incorporates both the W, K and possibly P series. One perfect phone that can compete against the entire market. A(ll-in-one) series! I know that it isn't that great for money making purposes but charge a premium for it and it can seem acceptable. It would be nice to go back to the days of one killer phone.
EDIT: And just look at the new menu theme.

I think the W850 is a W700 in K800 clothing, ie; the Tech is based on the old platform, not the newer K800 platform.
Anyway, looks like Eldar has a white W850, check out the pic from his W710 review:

Wow so kept this under wraps quite well! Especially considering they had to use it in the set of the Da Vinci Code for quite some Time I guess!

| I'm just getting a bit sick of se at the moment going on with all these different 'lines' you could say...the walkman phones, and the cyber shot phones. Because it leaves you with a bad taste in your mouth what ever phone you get...
e.g
Buy the w850, u will feel let down that they have taken auto focus away from you , even though they could so easily leave it in.
Buy the k800, and you will feel hard doen by as you have no where near as much memory as the walkman phones, and you don't get a newer software for playing your tunes.
I wish se would pull them selves together and just get back to making good phones, for everyone, at the same time. Lets see all the best features in one phone. Is it that much to ask for? a 3.2cam, walkman phone with 1gb card, xenon flash and good quality video...
This is what nokia have realised and are starting to show in their n series phones...all round competitors.
The way se are trying to put us in groups, single us off, force us into buying what they want us to buy...by sacraficing parts of the phone...its just stupid...

Same (agree with above)-
None of them seem to be the 'perfect' one. I mean i know you can't buy a fone which has absolutely everything, but u at least want the features you've been used to. Moving from a K750i/w800i with a gr8 2mp with autofocus and walkman player to a phone without autofocus really is like downgrading.
If the W850 doesnt have AF (which it definately seems) we're gonna be stuck with buying either the K790 or K800i jst to have the feature (i don't particularly think these phones are the sleekest looking). Just to mention i don't really like the look of the W850 either- it's the chamfered edge that puts me off plus it just seems to have a tacky look to it but it might grow on me.
At the moment i wouldnt really consider buying any of these new phones, but i'd rather stick with what ive got or buy the W900i (which looks WAY better than this W850!)
Took a look at the pics at http://www.newmobile.nl/eur/en/photos.php?phone_id=198f186 from previous post- very bad!

Cheers guys...thank god theres some people out there that know what I meen...
My upgrade is comming around in a few months...i have decided im deffinatley not goign to be getting the k800 or the w850, simply because i know i will be dissapointed with the video and the lack of memory, and the boring looks that just don't ring my bell.
I'm going to do the brave thing, and stick it out with my k750, until se finally announce a few more cybershot phones...
It's bount to happen people btw, it would be plain silly for se to release details of a new cybershot, beofre the k800 hits the sale rooms, but give it a few months on the shelves, and we will see at least 3 new models..maybe a 3.2 slide...a 3g candtbar with 30fps video...or, a direct replacment of the w900 with a 3.2 cybershot version.
I think many others feel the same way as me on this one, no body is exactly head over heels with the k800?...i imagine a lot of us will be sticking it out for the new releases...it iwll be worth it in the end.

I agree too. SE would be more competitive if they released the same phone in different packages and price them a little differently (k750/w800). And do this for the diferent price ranges. W850 will be quite expensive, enough to include AF. The w700 wont be expensive enough.
The current product offering is good products (only as good as other manufacturers) with a very evident flaw in one area for all expensive and cheap phones. |

How is it compared to a W900 size while opened?
I hate my w900 when I put it in my shirt's pocket I hope the w850 will be smaller and lighter.
Any price expectation and release date yet?

@arj2442 - speaking of all around good phones, we shouldn't forget making them quadband, EDGE AND 3g capable (again, something that Nokia seems to be doing without a problem. It just amazes me that SE is so hard set on dividing the markets, not just geographically but functionally, instead of making one product that will sell EVERYWHERE and apeal to EVERYONE's desires.
When talking about making a Walkman (tm ) phone with a weak camera, it reminds me of what a friend of mine told me a while back - he rides a motorcycle and had come to my party and said: " I can go without a drink all night, but I can't go with just one..." If you give us a camera, you can't cheap out and not make it either the best, or at least CURRENT with the rest of your 1 year+ product line... |
