I just had a question, but will those data cables on ebay work as well for the flashing of the t68 -> t68i? because it seems there are quite a few t28 data cables goin' around for about $10 US on ebay. I jus' wanted to know if those will work, if it will damage my phone. Let me know. Thanks!

Data cables won't work, it has to be the T28 service cable..

You can buy them at

http://www.cellphoneshop.net/sercabforert.html

14.99$ + shipping..

I order the service cable from cellphoneshop.net. They advertise that it is a service cable but when I received the item, it turn out to be a data cable which you can not use to flash or unlock your phone. I contact them several time but no answer. One they got your money- They disappear on you. Beware..................
Now, for unlocking/flashing you need service cable.
Open the end of the cable that connect to the phone, if pin 9 and pin 11 connect together, you have got a service cable.
If pin 9 is not connect, you get data cable
Hope this help
Some where in this forum shown you how to convert service cable to data cable. Just do the reverse and you get a service cable.

Yes, I am exactly doing this upgrade. Are you chinese? If not, you'd better upgrade to R5C.

rog, I got the German/English/French version of R2F in Basel, Switzerland at MobileZone. I'm sure you can get it in Zurich as well. Took 2 hours, didn't cost a cent, and it was an authorized upgrade.

@jnonhoffzieg: OK, I'll try it there. The Problem is, that official SE-Partners over here are currently flashing R5D, and the dealer here in Zurich wants 50 CHF for the "downgrade"... Because they have "a lot of work downloading an older Firmware-Version". Ja genau!!!

Cheers,
Rog.

Amazing thread!

It seems clear to me now, just one question

Let's say we have the flash cable, of course the ErcissonClient and the firmware, basically all we need left is the logger right? Which is basically we buy from unlimited.co.uk then we can proceed flashing the phone.

Just needed clarification on that matter. What is this logger exactly? From my understanding, we open up EricssonClient, then we buy whatever from unlocking.co.uk and they give us the username and password. Is that the log thing we are talking abt?

Then after entering the right login details, i assume following the rest of the instructions, it will flash the phone?

Thanks

yes that is what everyone is talking about. You can buy one log which should be enough to upgrade 1 phone.

I have a question:

I have a T68m and want to upgrade it using this method. I want the latest firmware in English. Should I use the R5C or the R5D 'ie' firmware? The T68i includes the chinese right? Does it include the english also?

R5D include english menu, english T9, traditional chinese pinyin and "pen order" input method, and chinese menu. No more languages, no simplified chinese.

Yes, in the call list, and and pull down phone book, the font size is always medium....no matter how you change the font size in the setting..
