@ Prom1 - they are buttons, except they're sunk under the phones fascia, kind of like a laptops touchpad, look at the whole keypad, its completely flat to the phones surface with no gaps.
@ S4k1s - i presume your little irony post was a dig aimed at my comment about it looking like an ipod nano ? thats not entirely a bad thing, SE are obviously going after the ipod scene too now, aswel as the blackberry market with the M600i.
However, still there is disappointment for me. The complete lack of even a 2mp camera equal to the K750i's, and no front facing camera for 3G video calls seriously kill the phones chances with me. Im still going to stick to the P990i, same UIQ type smartphone but with more options. Th W950i's only advantage IMO is the fact it has 4gb of memory, but then, so could the P990i with a Duo stick.

Immo pictures look rather photoshoped. I also wonder if anyone has seen a real handset.
Pity about the lack of camera, it would have been the perfect phone for me.

@etaab: No, not really.
I just see complaints in lots of forums about everything looking like a iPOD and how it is a mistake from SE's side not to include a camera etc.
So, I just felt I had to write about it.
It is like every young kid comparing every movie to either Matrix or LOTR saying oh that is a copy from Matrix or oh that is a copy of LOTR without thinking other movies had the same stuff b4 them.
I don't relate at all to iPOD when I see something with a rectangular screen and buttons beneath it.
I don't belive that all rectangular handsets out there with keypad + screen are copys of the iPOD.
The other thing is about SE's mistakes...
This is a mistake from , that is a mistake from people are talking more about SE's "mistakes" than the handsets them selves.
Is it a mistake from SE not to have camera? I bet they know better than we do.
Every handset can't have everything and every handset is not aimed for everybody. People
All phones don't need a camera. Does the iPODs have a camera? Does the Creative plyaers have a camera? Nope.
This is a dedicated music phone. Aimed for music lovers. Now they don't need to have mp3 players + phones but only one device.
The W950 have 4GB memory + a really good s/w player. So this phone is good at this area -music.
Later on will bring a phone really good at imaging.
And also some phones with both imaging and music capabilities but not top notch in either of them...
I'm just tired about this whole situation and not going personal with anyone here. |

Besides who knows, maybe will release a 1.3, 2.0 or better MP camera accessory or even a plugin wifi accessory for these phones at a later date. |

This is the FIFTH Walkman product for Europe, and there are more to come. I am sure that Sony Ericsson will also release a 'WALKMAN' branded player as an application for the P990 and probably the M600 in due course.
You now have a series of choices, and I think it's great that they've made the W950. The lack of a camera isn't great news for me, but I bet it is for the countless commuters I see coming out of the City of London in an evening, carrying Nokia 6310's, BlackBerry's and many other phones without cameras. They're also perfect candidates for a premium music player, that this may well be.
It's the third UIQ 3 device to be announced (again, more will follow before year end). How long did we wait for a new P-series phone in the past?
Sony Ericsson are in a good position financially to experiment in new markets and diversify. This is a good thing. They've got another press event at the end of February, ahead of CeBIT, so don't always assume that this is a silly decision - because there's more around the corner.
Last week was the M600i and then the K610 and then this. They're rapidly catching up with Nokia for product launches, although it remains to be seen how this will translate to improved market share.

Well, as I stated at the M600 thread the only thing that keeps me from buying these phones (M600/W950) is the lack of WiFi.
I don't complain or call it a mistake by
It is their strategy, but also the reason I won't be buying this phone since it don't fit my needs.
Also I do understand the people saying it is stupid of not to have a camera in this one since this phone is not aimed @ corporate market.
A 2MP cam would be ok in this one, 1.3MP I belive is totaly outdated.
I would understand the lack of camera if releases a W950 with camera + M2 + WiFi at the same time with the W950 but at a higher price.
But lets not strategize for
( I am 100% serious with this post btw ) |

l always wanted a phone with a touchscreen but the p series are too big.then i saw the w950 and loved it until i realise that it didn't have a camera...why make a w series phone without a camera. Unlike the m600 this is a entertaiment focused phone. Even if the phone's camera aren't great it's fun to have a camera and take some funny pictures. sorry for my bad english |

a camera would be nice and all, but if it did have one, and then a new phone came out with a better camera, the camera curse may catch on and i may get jealous and sadly spend most of a day thinking of what to do next...
