@786KBR: Any beta testers in SA? I knew my friend da wirelessmonkey always got the phones before they were widely released in SA. Are there people who get the phones months before their European releases?

Yip the testers get them first, like the Z610 was first recieved on the 18/08/06 but then the progress in testing the dates get updated.

I'm sure there are quite a few folks on this thread who wouldn't mind being beta testers, and i'm certain a few of us would really put those new phones thru their paces, and then some.
I'm not superstitious, merely mildly stitious.

Put a phone through it's paces...I think the manufacturers would start cursing my name if I started testing for Vodacom...lol!

@jmash
Got some good news bro!!! The W950 is out on Vodacom contract, it's gonna set you back though.

I need you guy's help! I can now get the W950 but it's gonna set me back R2100 on a weekender+ package, now i have a few options.

1. I can change contract to the buisiness topup 315 and end up paying an extra R60 over the usual phone bill (usually around R300 inc insurance) and get the W950 for about R1500.
2. I can get the M600 for R300 on the weekender+ and a 1gig memory stick micro for about R500, so i'd probably be able to get about 3 gigs
3. I can get a P990 for about R300 more than the W950 and be stuck with 60megs memory.

What should I do??? If i can get someone to give me quickoffice, pdf+ and the translator then i think i'll stick with the w950 and just pay up.

PS. the contract i'm talking above is my mom's not mine.

Guys should note that phones in the beta testing phase are prone to bugs...so basically your work as a beta tester is check for bugs big and small that might have slipped through in factory testing.
In the same breath unleashes something like the P990i- after three fw updates it's still comes with bugs.

Not really, theres 2 firmwares out for the P990 atm, branded which is total crap and the generic version thats working fine.
Theres no other firmware out in SA.

Nice pics indeed; without trying to sound so cliched about sunset photos, that pic of yours really is bril. Nice sepia effect suits the band rehearsal pic; could almost imagine such a pic on the back of some 'unplugged' album of sorts.

@ da brixsta,
Yup, I guess it's been a while since I was last 'true to my avatar';
I'll be a retro-wanqa for now...

@Kitsune,my contract with MTN will be ready for an upgrade next year October Mfethu,so l'll wait for the w950 till then.It feels like forever to tell you since l can't wait for this baby.
As for the requested advice,since you like the w950 more I think you should go for it Bro,even though it's gonna cost you & you won't have to worry about memory(4G).The P990 is a good phone as well,but in your case you'll be stuck with only 64Mb,l don't think you'll enjoy the P990 with such small memory.I think you should just close your eyes and pick up the w950.Hope this helps.
As for me,it's Oct next year and l think the price would have dropped by then and more uiq3 apps available!

Another classic spotted on eBay, this time a new (!) Ericsson R380w smartphone! Gonna leave this one though...
I had one of these about 4 years ago.
Could only use O2 and Vodafone SIMs in it, due to the GSM 900 and Yank GSM 1900 frequencies of the 'w' model.
At £59 on BIN, it ain't bad at all for this classic, although the seller is asking £15 for postage, which is ridiculous.
To think there was some bloke on eBay selling 8 of these new for £27.99 last year...would love to know where they locate these old classics in new condition.
A pity this handset didn't have Bluetooth...

@da wanqsta: I can remember when the R380 came out circa 2000/2001...it was the best thing I'd ever seen, a phone that could be used as PDA running off the predecessor to Symbian with a nice design...only snag was that it came without GPRS.

@ da brixsta,
I can relate to that well. Around 2001, when I first saw that keypad of the otherwise ordinary looking /// phone fold down to reveal a massive touchscreen display with smartphone/PDA functionality back then, it completely won me over...a PDA 'in disguise' if ever there was; I mean it almost looked like an ordinary R320 until that keypad was flipped open.
The R380 was indeed another true /// classic.
