It also made me realize that the Starfish Organization's motto of helping others one at a time is quite appropriate here, more so when one considers that although we would like to help everybody, realistically we cannot. We can, however, help one or two... So, with this in mind, how would you guys feel if we had a quick office-collection for that family? Francois could, if he agrees, maybe hand it over to them on our behalf? If you guys are in favour, i'll kick off with some moolla...

A kind gesture indeed.
However, when it comes to monetary donations like this, perhaps it would be best for those that wish to donate to PM Francois and take it from there.
That way no one here feels 'out' or pressurised if others are saying "I'm in"; and/or they may not be able to contribute, or perhaps have reservations for whatever reason.
Just my 2c-worth.

I like what the wise amawanqa has said. I know i will not be able to donate anything in my situation without offering up the chance to see my other half first time in months. It is just one of those things. Two things worthy to mention, these people have only survived due to help from other people, and these people help others themselves. I think they will be fine with or without our help. But my big thing, try to do something positive, no matter what it is and to who. Do what you can, even if it is smiling at the ladies who work at the checkout at the local checkers, and making them smile. I make a point of always doing that.

Just got off a 17 minute video call with a friend in Jozi...after I finished the call I noticed that the phone relatively hot. Anyone experience this? It always happens after heavy use.

I have finally parted company with my Nokia 3230. It was a good, reliable smartphone. It is now on the way to my older sister, via my nephew who is flying back to SA tonight.
I’m planning to get something more substantial in the coming months…
In the interim, here’s something that da brixsta would recognise all too well:

(Good old eBay!) I have a few specific searches saved in 'my favourites' on the PC, and I couldn't resist this classic when I saw it was going for a piffling £15 on BIN, and the condition... yup, it wasn't on BIN for long...
Almost incredibly, it's brand-spanking new and totally unused, complete with everything. How rare is that for a 2001 model phone? The Bluetooth-equipped T39m. What a classic.

Even the manual is still sealed in its original plastic.

5 years between these 2 handsets.

Not sure which SIM I'm going to put in there yet; I have many freebie SIM's with some credit on from UK network online promos, or I might just keep it as it is for a while and maybe sell it on esato to some die-hard Ericsson fan for a good few more shekels perhaps...we'll see which way the wind blows.

God wanqa, that's one awesome buy. I've been off eBay for some time- weary of scammers. Please tell us how this classic performs.

If I end up using it, I sure will brixster, but it's such a rarity in this state (ie. BNIB) nowadays that I'm half tempted to leave it as it is for now; who knows what it would be worth like this to a /// collector in a few more years' time...? We'll see; maybe my curiosity and obvious interest will get the better of me.

That is one interesting piece of mobile memorabilia there...I vote for the saving it. You never know, some mobile museum might want it one day...but the collector is more likely.

Amazing to see how technology has changed over the last few years!

Nice find there, boet, that phone looks beautiful! The longer you can keep it in that pristine condition the better...

Have you guys also noticed the Xmas feeding frenzy? It's like people have gone crazy with their bonuses and are buying anything and everything on which they can lay their hands. There's a store selling those iPod modulators for R400 ... Directly next door is a store which is flogging them for 33% less... Neither store can keep up with the demand, according to their sales staff. Insanity, i tell ya.

@da wanqsta: Nice avatar there mate!

@786KBR: Any beta testers in SA? I knew my friend da wirelessmonkey always got the phones before they were widely released in SA. Are there people who get the phones months before their European releases?
