I read up his article on wikipedia and he seems to have been quite a bit of a dictator, not as colourful and off-beat as our very own PW Botha.
But yes, depending on your politics you either see the man as a benevolent dictator or one of the 20th century's worst violator of human rights alongside Idi Amin, The Taliban and Sadaam Hussein.

Stalin and Hitler lead the 20th century's worst violators of human rights by a country mile IMHO, along with others like Pol Pot too.
Speaking about Idi(ot) Amin Dada, I saw the trailer of The Last King of Scotland when we saw Casino Royale; Forest Whitaker takes the part of the infamous dictator.

....how safe! America likes their burger buns buttered on both sides don't they;-) We know America wants a foot in wherever they can get it in.
Eddie Izzard talks about Dictators and how people can't handle the idea of someone killing so many people. He says something along these lines:
Kill one person, you are a murderer, kill a few people, you are a psycho serial killer, kill millions of people,it's almost like...Well Done! You must get up really early in the morning! I would hate to see your schedule...Death Death Breakfast Death Death Death Lunch Death Death Death Tea....
lol! I am not sure if it is on his Glorious or Dress to Kill show...but it is really good;-)

So yeah, we are having a, get this, cold day in Pretoria. i am wearing a warm top. Couldn't believe how cold it is today.

So I had a nice and long chat to our secretary. She and her husband left Zimbabwe sometime the last few years. It is interesting to hear about all she has been through, coming from there having everything, and getting here with nothing. Her story is quite inspiring. I just wish I could do something to help her and her family out in a practical way. It is Christmas.
Life is so hard on good people sometimes.

Totally unrelated, a friend of mine came for a visit after trying to go and visit a "friend" of his who landed himself in jail. The guy did not get bail, and will sit for 2-3 months. This chap, the one in jail has robbed so many houses and stolen quite a few things from the other guy, (the one who went to visit him) including 3 phones (one which was a SE K750i I think) and a car, which disappeared mysteriously. The other guy is a very forgiving chap, up to the point where he is being irresponsible with his life sometimes. But yeah, I have been musing over this. Lot to think about.
PS. The guy was white, once again just to show they come in all colours.

Where I live we find a lot of white businessmen Hiring workless/homeless black people to steal for them. Pretty harsh.
It seems crime truly is a profession for some. |

You know, Francois, that post of yours concerning the couple from Zim got me thinking... Yeah, i know there are plenty of locals who are having a tough time, but i can't help realizing that many in our neighbouring countries live in conditions far worse than we'll ever experience, d.v. It also made me realize that the Starfish Organization's motto of helping others one at a time is quite appropriate here, more so when one considers that although we would like to help everybody, realistically we cannot. We can, however, help one or two... So, with this in mind, how would you guys feel if we had a quick office-collection for that family? Francois could, if he agrees, maybe hand it over to them on our behalf? If you guys are in favour, i'll kick off with some moolla...
