Well it seems I was a bit overjoyous. Next time I plugged it in it didn't work at all.
Turns out that the K810i phone must be shut off before you can USB plug it in to your G4 iBook. Then, and only then do the MSD's show up in Finder. Well, I can live with that.

It looks increasingly likely that Sony Ericsson will be selling the P1 with an official iSync Phone Plugin (which I have a copy of), in which case, third-party plugins will not be required.

Plus after looking at your plugin I see it has the wrong phone identity information in it - have you actually tested it?

@JoolsG4, that's nice for you, but is it backwardly compatible with the P990i?

No. Each plugin only works with the specific phone model it is designed for. The P1 plugin only works with the P1. So far no P990 plugin is available.

Smartmovie question :

Does anyone have recomendations on settings for either Visualhub or Handbrake, to encode .avi files for smartmovie viewing on a P990i?

I have used both apps with great success and minimal tweaking to encode movies for the built-in video player, but I just can't get them to work for Smartmovie !

Thanks

Sony Ericsson have released their own official P990i and W950i iSync Plugins.

Newer and better than those hacked ones.

Yes, you take the phone end of the cable and plug it into the phone, then you take the USB end of the cable and plug it into a USB port on your Mac.

Then, on the phone you choose "File Transfer" to mount the memory stick and internal memory on the desktop.
