You can't disable the feature in the phone. Put a little piece of black tape over the sensor. That will sort the problem out.

That would make it dark all the time.
this was not posted from a w850i as I only get 1mb of free WAP/mo |

Nope. Think about it
On the W850. When it senses light. The screen dims. When it senses a drop in light level. The screen goes brighter.
Try it by putting your finger over the sensor. You will see
I tried sniffing coke once but didnt like it. The bubbles kept going up my nose |

Rookwise, the w850i does exactly the opposite of what you say... It makes the screen darker when it's night and lighter when it's day.

Nah. The first W850 I had went dim in the dark and light in the day. That had to be taken back cos of other problems. The replacement does exactly what I put in my post above
The W850 was debranded using wotanserver (originaly 02 branded) and is running R1EG001 firmware.

I have R1ED001 and it is brighter with more light. The question is: has the other firmware changed the way the sensor is functioning?
@w850i users: please post what your phone does and with which fimrware.

Dimmer in the dark and brighter in the day so as not to hurt the eyes, just like the sensor of my VAIO notebook screen.
Firmware version: R1ED001 - apparently the latest one.
BTW, do any of you guys hear a short noise when entering/exiting the Walkman V2 application (on W850i) and between the tracks (regardless of whether the audio files are saved on the memory stick or in phone memory)?

My W850i gets brighter in the light and dims in the dark. It shouldn't be the other way around. Just doesn't make sense.
And yes, there is a short noise when skipping a track.

is R1ED001 the latest firmware ? |

Apparently, it seems to be the latest official one, as there are no updates available when searching for updates through SEUS or the phone itself. |

Had my white W850i for 4 days. The D-pad cracked. It went back and i got myself a N73 instead. SO dissapointed with SE at the moment. |

@captainsm
Same here.
Still, SE have always won lots of extra ponts for style and features. |

mine goes bright in the light and dim in the dark. What's the point of making it dim in the light anyway? That way you won't be able to see the screen properly when you're outdoor and the screen will be a torch in the dark. Mine doesn't skip track although i haven't upgrade the firmware. |

i think it should just go brighter in light and not dim in dark but just stay the way it is.
