Hey, wat's up Nigeria, it's been a long time since i showed up here, i was thinking my account would have been shut down by now, how is everyone, the people i can remember, coola, abu, aya, amby, angel, how are you all? i dont know why, but i took a break from esato and went over to prodigits, it's cool over there, though i think this forum is more matured. But you get to learn the latest tricks, like igprs and stuff. currently browsin 4 free...

@Ifed: Nna, what are u waiting for? PM me straight away make I join u download 20mb per day.
Its not that we are just waking to free gprs, afterall, free browsing started here, long before Seun left to start Nairaland, but y'know we're gentlemen here with sound moral ethics and believe we should pay for whatever service we use (until water pass garri like in mine and Abu's case)

Thanks for the phone info @ amby.
I dont know how secure this thread is, cos we might have Mtn spies, so I'll probably not post anything here, I'll inbox those that ask. As far as i know, celtel or Zain has one trick,(which is really popular) while Mtn has two tricks. My computer recently crashed, so i'm yet to try phone-pc, but i'm sure it works, the most important thing is to first of all get your phone to browse for free.

Celtel/Zain is still free with the mms thingy, while glo now requires the use of proxy softwares.
MTN is free with the use of proxies on PC as far as I know. Loopholes are everywhere and boys just dey exploit.

If there's any new hack, i don't mind receiving it in my inbox too.

@all: can someone put me straight. i thot wcdma was the next gen to cdma2000 3x. but while checking the specs of the w980, i saw it did wcdma. assuming reverse compatibility, does it mean i could use it on a cdma network (starcomms, multilinks, etc) or am i way off? i quickly googled to confirm but ddnt get anything satisfactory. thot one of u egg heads would know! it would be great if se went back to making cdma phones! i've had the intension to look for the last one they produced for my starcomms. think it was a version of the t610.

@ifed: As with every other red blooded nigerian here, i also apply for the awoof browsing info, but those that get the pm should be true blue members! so many times when gist of awoof browsing comes up, "new" members or habitual mias show up requesting. a few days later the link doesnt work. THERE ARE SPIES EVERYWHERE!!!

@mamba: i was reluctant to ask aya/oluyom the same question, thinking its somewhere in the thread. oya oluyom. talk ur own! and did celtel's mms actually work? i never heard of anyone using it. even my friends that work there! abi it works in just a few towns? or is it for postpaid only. pm me the settings if u can.

@oluyom: i'm begining to realise that the phone browser does have some aspects that opera mini doesnt. esp when u regulate urself to wap pages.

I tried explaining this a looong time ago on this thread, but we ended up with an argument, and I simply walked away. So, here goes again:

WCDMA, while a CDMA standard, is actually what GSM networks use to deliver 3G (as GSM does not have the capacity to deliver broadband services on its own). This is why GSM networks need a new licence in order to offer 3G, while CDMA networks do not. It is also why they (GSM operators) very often need to setup a parallel network to what is already on ground for 2G/2.5G.

Again, while WCDMA is a CDMA standard, it is not compatible with CDMA 2000 on which the CDMA guys deploy their services. Basically, when you are talking of WCDMA, you are talking of UMTS or 3G on GSM networks. I hope I was able to present it as simple as possible.

In short, the W980 is only GSM-compatible, and won't work with Starcoms, ZoomMobile or any of the non-GSM networks.

MMS never worked for me on Celtel (unless I am suffering from memory loss)

Very correct.
