@oluyom: What setting do u use to browse on mtn's 3g? with the barrage of settings they sent me i can make vid calls but all my browsing is still via gprs!!!
I use the regular settings, as follows:
Username: web
Password: web
APN: web.gprs.mtnnigeria.net
IP Address: 10.199.212.2
Port: 8080
On your phone, make sure you set the data connection to "automatic" or "dual mode" or whatever term your manufacturer uses to mean automatic switching between bands.
I notice too that there are times that inspite of the presence of 3G signal, my phone stays connected to GPRS. In those times, if I really need 3.5G speeds, I set the data connection to "WCDMA" (that's Samsung's term; yours may be something like "3G" or "UMTS").
Left to me, I'd leave it permanently on WCDMA. Its just that battery life tends to suffer in that mode.

It could be more than 10k because the 2gig sells for 7.5k. I just read that the P1 can handle the 8gig, so my eyes are already on that.

@area: No; you dont. i purchased a new MTN SIM last week, put it in the phone, typed in the settings, and started browsing. Celtel and Glo need to take a hint from MTN.

@brym: the difference in prices btwn the cards dont appreciate or depreciate at the rate of the memory. A 128kb card would cost abt N300 to N400!

@all: if u are checking this forum from ur phone, pls use the wap site and save a bundle. i haven't used it since the days of free browsing but its really really cheaper! |

Abubakar is right about the WAP version of Esato being much cheaper if you are browsing PayGo. That's what I've been using since I switched to MTN PayGo. Plus it appends the phone you are browsing with to the bottom of your post.

@O'Yom: I stopped using wap to browse when Operamini was released.
Ur review still omitted how those devices run Operamini. I am asking because on the two HTC Windows Mobile devices I have used, operamini times out when I am writing a long post. Is it the same with the i780? |

@brym: to make a long story short, becos a 2gig costs 7k it doesnt mean twice the capacity (ie 4gig) would cost twice the price (ie 14k).
as a foot note to oluyom's comment, one thing about opera mini i didnt like back in the day was that even if u visited the wap site with it, it wouldn't place ur phone make and model at the bottom of the post. dont know if the recent versions do now.
im not a football fan but anyone go to abj for the man u vs portsmouth game?
and finally, is there still an embargo on non-techie things on this thread? i can remember the good old days of debating nuclear profilation.... sigh....

abu: I doubt if even the UN can enforce that embargo, so if you can get away with it, go right on. By the way, did anyone here receive the supposed SMS from Celtel announcing their re-branding to 'Zain' from today? I didn't but lots of people say they did.

"Could" in the sentence above is used to express possibility.
Rephrased it means, it is POSSIBLE for the price of a 4gig card to be more than 10k because a 2gig card goes for 7.5k.
This also implies uncertainty or doubt on my mind since I don't know the true price.
I said this in reply to your post which implied that a micro 4gig CANT be more than 10k because you bought a mem stick duo 2 gig for 7k.
CAN'T or CANNOT as you used it implies that you are CERTAIN the price is not more than 10k.
So if we do get the true price and it is less or more than 10k, I am correct because I expressed uncertainty by using the word "could" my comment.

@brym: thank u teacher. next time i wont use loose diction on this thread! getting back to the point, after ur "english lesson", whether it could, would, should or did, what is ur premise that it may or may not be 10k?
and hasnt anyone gotten the actual price yet? i heard recently that the m2 cards have an adaptor for us still stuck in "microstick duo land"! thus easing our migration to newer phones. had i known i would have gone that way instead of pondering how much i could peddle mine once i out grow my P990. |
