Sony cuts sales target for cameras, smartphones for 2014-15
May 22 (Reuters) - Japan's Sony Corp lowered its sales target for digital cameras to 1.3 trillion yen ($12.7 billion) for the fiscal year to end-March 2015, from a previous estimate of 1.5 trillion yen.
Sony also cut its sales target for smartphones and tablets to 1.5 trillion yen in its 2014 fiscal year from an earlier outlook of 1.8 trillion yen.
Sony, which expects smartphone sales to rise by more than a quarter to 42 million in the current year to end-March, is battling with China's Huawei Technologies and ZTE Corp and South Korea's LG Electronics for third place in the $225 billion global market behind Samsung Electronics and Apple Inc.

Not sure if the "Ray 3" is a mid-range. |

I think Sony's most important problem is being Japanese. Japanese products are of a really poor quality. Xperia Z's displays suck because they are made in Japan, Tokyo messes up the updates etc. You also see this in other things; Toyota and Lexus suck, their economy sucks.
So I think it would be better to move their HQ out of Japan and hire foreign employees and move all their production out of Japan. |

@MartenR
Are you serious? Toyota was the third-largest automobile manufacturer in 2011, furthermore you only referred to the Z display which true does not have good viewing angles but gets accurate colors better than other displays, it's a tradeoff, the rest of the phone is of premium quality, a lot of drop tests you can find in youtube and some reviews proved Z is very much a durable phone, and that durability equates to good build quality.
sorry, but to generalize that a product sucks because it is made in Japan is a very misguided statement. It's like saying this products sucks also because it is made in china, really there is no logic there.
In my opinion, usually Japan reserves the better quality products for themselves, so that their own people will benefit from it the most (hence why they have exclusive products which can only be bought in Japan), I once had a Nintendo DS that was bought in the USA, and compared it from a DS that was bought in Japan, It is the exact same model but the one that was bought in Japan easily had a much better quality of material used to it compared to the the one that came from the USA.

I think Sony's most important problem is the Westerners. Look at what Howard Stinger did to Sony? Look at what Bert Nordberg did to Sony Ericsson. Look at what Europe did to their EU and their economy. |

The only problem with Sony being japanese is a strong yen. |

I think Americans destroyed sony in last 6-7 years
just one period of time americans managed sony and this is the result
Now it's time to Japanese to rebuild SONY

@MartenR:
No offense but I think you're drunk If you think Japan-made product suck then have a quick look at what hassleblad (read: western company) did to NEX-7 when they released their overpriced E-mount camera
Everyone in SAR screamed ugly when they saw their beloved NEX camera turned this way
I'm not inciting racist comments here but to say Japan's product quality are poor must be a big joke. otherwise what you saw was just a Japanese product made in China

Young Doc: No wonder this circuit failed. It says "Made in Japan".
Marty McFly: What do you mean, Doc? All the best stuff is made in Japan.
Young Doc: Unbelievable. |
