lucky you. i guess you never got an X10 or Ion huh? they took away my grandfathered unlimited data when i got the X10 (not even from AT&T). I will miss the roll over, but if i have unlimited talk, i guess it doesn't matter. ha.

why does AT&T have to be such a pain!? and yes, the price will come down. My prediction is it will sell at $699 or $749 USD when it hits US shores officially. If sony makes a deal with tmobile to offer the Z1, then i'm guessing AT&T version will sell for the higher price. This is all my speculation by the way.

I'll be switchin to tmobile but if it sucks, i'll come back to AT&T after the mandatory wait period, sell the C6903 and get the C6906.

for fun, check out this great Z1 commercial from Sony

I had the X10 and after that all the phones I got were unlocked. I am able to keep my unlimited data plan because I get a corporate discount on my AT&T bill. I also get a 10 to 20% discount on all purchases at the official Sony online store.

Nice commercial.

@cu015170 - point taken. but for proto firmware, it is a drastic improvement from the Z and definitely holding its own, if not beating, the other top competitors in the field (S4/One/G2/Iphone)

Yes, its an improvement over the Z for sure.. and I would also rate it above the other android flagships for sure. I would even say that its on par with 1020 daylight photos, which is impressive considering the difference in sensor size.

For the most important factor of the z1 system is the fact that they increased the mpix count but kept the pixel size at 1.4 microns. See.. the 1020 has a bigger area to collect light from, but the pixels are in fact smaller at 1.1 microns, so I think it looses a bit on that front.

We will have to wait and see what happens to both phones after a few updates.. technically the 1020 has more potential for improvement considering the size of the sensor.

But to have 20 mp pics where IQ are on par or even a bit better than the current 13 mp phones, isnt that the achievement? No one was expecting miracles...

Correct.. like I said in the above post, the most impressive thing Sony did is to actually break away from increasing Mpix count and decreasing pixel size while using the same small sensors.

Sony went for a bigger sensor, increased pixel size (from 1.1 to 1.4), and increased Mpix count all at the same time. They also managed to keep a slim profile. Technically, the Z1's camera system is a solid step forward.

All of this puts the 808's sensor and overall size into perspective.. double the resolution with the same 1.4 micron pixels.

Yes, most of them do.. I've see one or two units with almost "perfect" optics, but a lot of them blur the corners : ( I don't understand why they didn't use the optical system from the 808.

what the hell. i get a corp discount too. but they saw no problem in just yanking my unlimited data plan out from under me. the moment they picked up the x10 and recognized it in their system, they pushed me to the 2gb plan with no warning. after 13 years of service, i expected better. i've always been comfortable and confident that i'd have signal with AT&T, which is why i've always stayed with them. but i have friends with tmobile and they don't seem to complain, so i'll give it a try. worst case, i'll be back to AT&T in 6 months heh

Hmmm Z1 acts really weird. Sometimes it takes the best shots, and sometimes they are really average. Looks to me like Z1 sensor is good, Sony wants to make it the best by software correction, and by trying too much, the shots come out just average.

They did the same to me. I called customer service and they switched me back to unlimited right away. What did they tell you when you talked to them about it?

they told me that my unlimited data was for non-smartphones and since i was using a smartphone (the x10) now, i couldn't use the unlimited data plan (formerly called media max) and needed a smartphone data plan, which was the 2GB plan (at the time).

i called twice, hoping to find another person who i could convince but you know how it is talking to telecom customer service.. it's very YMMV. and i think the 2nd person saw the note in my account from the 1st person and just refused my plea.

now the Z1 deal from clove is just what i need to give me a nudge to leave AT&T and give Tmobile a try.

Great little video showing how good the auto focus is on the Z1 and how well superior auto mode tells you which way to hold the phone https://www.youtube.com/watch[....]U&feature=youtube_gdata_player

^posted already. they stole that video from the original reviewer. not cool.

just ordered a white Z1 from clove does anybody know if the smartwatch will come WITH the Z1 or will it come later as a 2nd package? I'm not sure if clove already has them in stock since i heard it's not supposed to launch until late this month or early oct?

newish smartwatch 2 feature video that has it pairing via NFC with the Z1.. but a Z1 with that little slot that was seen on old proto pics.. could it be the japanese variant? i wonder what it was SUPPOSED to be if it was cut from the final version for some reason..

They're expecting stock on the 16th, hopefully it will ship on the same day. Now, who cares if the launch on the proper time, if we get it earlier, it's a win for us consumers/customers. So yeah, if the pre-order line isn't too large and they can fulfill it with their first shipment we can expect it sometimes next week. I'm already getting all giddy up for it. Just really wish they had the purple one.

Well I just cancelled my order with Negri as they were probably going to bill me extra and ordered from Clove, as I live in Thailand I didn't pay UK VAT but will pay vat into Thailand - delivery was 30 quid so no difference in price with Negri and I get a free watch - good result

I had the chance to play with this phone in Dalian, China today. I have to say the screen is superb. I tried a few pix in the store at 8 and 20MP in the bright showroom at wide angle. When I zoomed in I did see a noticeable amount of noise. I've never had a smart phone before and can only compare this noise level to my Panasonic lumix. To me it seemed like a lot of noise, even with ISO turned down to 50 (much better at that iso), but then again, I'm not sure what is 'nomal' or acceptable noise levels. It is an extremely responsive phone and feels natural and very high tech. It almost feels like something off a sci-fi movie when you use it. The time shift feature is really cool. It did get fairly warm while playing with it for 40 minutes. Lastly, I'm not sure if I should get the white or black.

Well, I'm also an avid road cyclist and PC geek. So, ordered laptop from Germany and did not have to pay import tax and order a lot of bike stuff from UK, also did not have to pay import tax. None of the items I imported were listed as a gift or of lower value, so I would safely assume that there will be no import tax charged in the US.
