Phones like p990 and g900 need a screen protector as they have resessed screens, unlike w960 which is like the psp (flush)

Well, i don't think we can call the G900 screen recessed, it's actually flush with the surface. The problem is with those gaps above and below the screen that are not sealed and let dust or cloth fibers in. I agree that putting a screen protector over the whole thing would reduce the problem, but if SE had done their job of sealing the phone properly, that would not happen.

I mean, if you get dust specks under the screen after 1 week, will you be able to read anything on the screen 3 months from now?

jollys:

I haven't seen that. If the touch screen and lcd panel are sold as separate pieces, then you might be right in that you only need the touch screen. Given that, why not order the touch screen then, and if for some reason you need the other piece, then you can just order that later. Sounds like you don't need that however (if everything else works great, except the touch screen.)

re: dust

I have the k750i, w880i, m600i and the g900. the first two have horrible dust problems. the only way to fix it is to disassemble the phone and manually clean it. I haven't had any dust problems with the m600, and i haven't had any kind of cover for it either. I also haven't had any dust problems with the g900, but the first day I got it (a few weeks ago) I also put on the screen saver (for scratches only; I know) and a dust cover (rubberized cover) True, it's not visually pleasing with the dust cover, but it serves a valuable purpose to not only keep dust out, but also to serve as a bit of a shock absorber, in the case where i don't set it down gently.

Well worth the $7 investment.

Although the dust is annoying and requires attention, I seriously doubt that SE would be able to control that fine a detail on the phone.

For starters, they would have to come up with a design that completely seals the screen from dust, while still allowing the phone to be taken apart. I don't know how they could do that. They would somehow have to seal the LCD screen to it's cover.... maybe someday.

In the mean time, I'll just use the dust cover. Anyway, once you've taken the phone apart once to clean the dust, that particular task becomes very simple and quick.

BTW, anyone know what the deal is with the w880 cover? I've taken it apart, and it's almost as if it was glued together at the top of the phone. It doesn't seem to have any "hooks" to snap back into place...

Been three days and mine also fell prey to the dust. There is one tiny piece, it looks like a dead pixel (someone mentioned that above). What a pity for a phone this good.

Anyone give a hint how to disassemble a touchscreen phone to clean it? I've done it with my old k750 but not with a touchscreen phone. Is it very different? I assume you have to be careful not to damage the screen or smth.

I'd be interested as well in knowing how to disassemble the phone to get it cleaned.

I'm taking it back to the shop this weekend for a replacement or repair (I don't think a replacement would help since most phones seem to suffer from the dust problem), I'm hoping they can do something like sealing the LCD completely to prevent this from happening, or at least sealing these stupid gaps above and below the screen whose sole purpose in life is to suck in dust.

However, I doubt the shop will find this a valid reason for a repair (I can picture the guy's face saying "it's only a speck of dust, you know"), so I might have to do this myself... scary.

If anyone has attempted this, or knows a disassembly guide, thanks for letting us know !

May I please ask for a little favor. Someone who uses Swiss Manager Pro on a G900 please post the Machine UID of the device. To determine it, invoke SMP, go to the System tab, select the first list item (IMEI), and in the popup window see the value for Machine UID. Thanks!

Edit: Never mind, found out via SE dev support.

It depends on how often you use your mobile.

After my first loading, the battery last 5 days 'til now, and there are still 15% left.
I made two 5 minutes phone calls, send about 20 sms, used wifi about 2 hours and shot 10 photos.
