This is a very good point. And by the way the speaker and the sound through the supplied headphones are loud and clear. Although I cannot compare it to other Walkman phones as this is my first one, I can't help noticing that quite a few people complain about it not being as lound as previous  phones, but this shouldn't be such a big issue, unless people want to go deaf 
As for the Mega Bass I use it rarely as it adds to much bass, IMHO.

Hello Everyone !
I have a W850 too, and my problem is that the volume is quite low....
My k750 was lot louder than this one. If the new firmware, not solve this....
Well, i don't know. I wrote to Sony Ericson, and they replied that they send my problem to the developers...

the speaker volume is louder than - w810i k750i w800i w700i d750i.
the earphone volume is not as loud for some people , for me it is the same at 8 blocks is perfect for me

Well, i have problem only with the earphones. The speaker is perfect. I tried with some other headphones but they aren't as good as i want... |

myn is on manual eqaulizer with the last 3 pushed up by 5 bars , nearly full , its louder than my n73 and k750i !

You can't disable the feature in the phone. Put a little piece of black tape over the sensor. That will sort the problem out.
I tried sniffing coke once but didnt like it. The bubbles kept going up my nose  |

The little phone on the right hand side with a line though it, That's the end call button  because the left hand side one is the call button! |
